Logitech’s right-handed wireless VX Revolution mouse gives you the comfort of a contoured, rubber grip body, and fast, precise tracking. Just plug the tiny 2.4 GHz receiver into your USB port, and forget about it; it’s small enough to stay plugged in, even when you put your laptop in its case!
The laser VX Revolution offers you smooth, precise cursor control on nearly any surface, ultra-smooth feet. The high-speed, low friction MicroGear Precision scroll wheel lets you fly through your documents and websites, side-to-side or up and down, or you can shift to precise click to click control for more delicate tasks.
The VX Revolution lets you see every detail in your photos, spreadsheets, or other documents. Logitech’s one-touch search feature allows you to highlight a word or phrase, then click on the Search button to display results from your favorite search engine. You’ll be amazed at the difference a premium-grade mouse will make!
Pros: First of all, I'm an engineer. I've used (and designed) tons of electronic gear. This is one of about 10 different Logitech models that I've tested. (The other models had no glaring problems).
While this is a terrific -mechanical- design, there must have been a different team at work on the electronics. The wheel's inertia-damping control is great. Though some complain that the settings tend to jump from 'none' to 'full' abruptly, at least this can be adjusted slightly.
The slanted design and size are good for notebooks. Not so small that it cramps your hands. Not too big to carry around.
HOWEVER...
Cons: This mouse does NOT work well in proximity to Wifi! They used the same frequency (2.4ghz)that is used in laptop wireless--then THEY WARN NOT TO USE THE MOUSE NEAR WIRELESS GEAR!
What an enormous blunder on the part of the designers. You have to wonder why this was approved, much less by a company like Logitech. It was obviously never field-tested.
The symptoms: The mouse 'cuts out' for short intervals, or simply stops working altogether.
This is a known problem, with lots of complaints stacking up. You will see repeated mention if you search for problem reports. Often it won't surface until a month after the mouse is connected (yes, a mystery). Replacing the mouse often fixes it, only to have it surface again later.
Logitech tech support is now farmed out, so you will rarely reach anyone knowledgable. Even if you do, the usual response is 'Turn off all wireless equipment in the vicinity.' If you're OK with that, then this would be a very good mouse.
Other Thoughts: If/when you end up calling Logitech, you'll probably get someone reading from a numbered list. Hang up. Call back later.
If you can reach an actual technician, ask if they can fix the problem. Many of us would love to be using this mouse. Again, the ergonomic design is very good. Recommended IF you will never need to use Wifi.

Great general purpose: NOT for gaming

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I ordered this mouse to help remove desk clutter from my corded MX500, liking the laser tracking, detentless flywheel scroll, shape and design (the receiver popping in and turning the mouse off is ingenious); I was hoping to replace the MX500.
Mouse is incredibly comfortable, much more so than even the MX500, and fits perfectly in my hand. I don't use the zoom feature much but the smooth scrolling is a HUGE appeal for someone who has to look through the huge Java API. The ideal mouse for browsing/general computer use.
Cons: While it's great at everything else, it's terrible for gaming. I haven't used enough mice to know exactly why but I suddenly starting sucking at all of my favorite games. I don't think the tracking is nearly as fast as the MX500 and there are delays (though small) waking it from a sleep state. It's not a fair comparison as the MX500 is often considered a gaming mouse, but it's something to take note of. You won't notice it in regular use unless you're a gamer.
The lack of tracking speed also makes this inappropriate for image editing.
Other Thoughts: I ended up using the VX for browsing documents/websites and general usage, while my MX500
Lastly, one fun feature this has that my MX500 doesn't is that it can track on glass. Not that I would do so very often but it can be fun to go "MY mouse can track on this window! Can yours?" -_-;;

Best laptop mouse ever made, great portability

Pros: It tracks pretty well although I carry a small mouse pad (preference). The receiver is beautifully engineer to fit in the mouse. When inserted into a small chute on the back, it clicks into place and turns off the mouse. When you need to use it, simply hit the eject button and the receiver pops out. Make no mistake, this is G O D send for someone hauling his work life around in cluttered bag. Battery life is also outstanding.
Cons: After about a year's hard use now it started to flake out. I think this was from the numerous times I've dropped it though. I take this thing EVERYWHERE, so its definitely seen better days.
Other Thoughts: I have no idea what Mr. Engineer is talking about that has everyone scared that you can't use this mouse with wireless enabled. I'm an IT field consultant and have to use wireless ALL the time while also using this mouse. Zero issues thus far and I've been through 6 laptops with this baby. Unless your wireless card in your laptop is total garbage, you will likely be fine.
They've apparently discontinued this mouse in favor of one that has a mini flush USB receiver. That's nice if you don't require all your USB ports when docked at the office, which I do. That means I have to tease the thing out and then I have no place to keep the tiny receiver while my laptop is docked. It will likely get lost. This model's receiver inserts neatly into the mouse which stays in my bag when I'm docked at the office.

Great Mouse!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This mouse is highly reliable! It has hit the ground hard several times over when moving laptops around that it was connected to! STILL WORKS! try that with other wireless mouses!
Price is a little high for a wireless mouse, but so far I have not had ANY trouble with this mouse in around 2 years of service. In my opinion the increased price was worth my money.
Good tracking... last mouse you should need for years! (or ever)
Cons: On windows computers, the software/mouse will open a search engine if you click the center search button accidentally... This has knocked me out of games and movies etc to go to a search engine!
On my Mac it works extremely well... but the extra buttons seem to not be mapped yet.. probably a user error ;-p .
Other Thoughts: I personally find it decent at gaming but I don't do many FPS games.
Haven't ever tested it against water damage but against shock (falls and slips off tables) it seems to be extremely well built.
Had a competing brand mouse that died after 2 times of hitting the floor from the table... Logitech is much better constructor.
Mouse is fairly large... not as large as a normal desktop mouse .. but not as small as a usual notebook one either... personally it was a perfect fit for my hand.
If your looking for something smaller check out the Logitech VX Nano ... smaller than this model...
This was the best purchase I have ever made from Newegg.
