5 out of 5 eggsGood average gaming mouse

Pros: Have owned since Feb 2011, didn't want to spend a ton of money and this fit the bill perfectly. The sensitivity buttons are a godsend for FPS gaming.

Cons: Have had trouble programming the buttons through the Logitech software.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome mouse

Pros: I've used the carp out of this mouse and it's still going great. Always been a fan of Logitech devices, and this mouse is no exception. It's been great and the on the fly sensitivity adjust is a life saver in the middle of a game.

Quality is great, feels nice, and it's not easily grimed up by human funk. For the 45 bucks I paid I have to say it's been worth every penny.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the greatest gaming mice ever made. 5 years old and still going strong.

Pros: While practically a legacy device now the MX518 was Logitec's workhorse gaming mouse and has been one of the best gaming mice on the market for years. FINALLY a worthy predecessor has been found in the G400s but that still doesn't devalue how nice this mouse is.

First the look. The palm grip and top buttons of the mouse are airbushed to look like dented aluminum. The effect is brilliant and will make you take a double take when you see it for the first time.

The mouse has a very classic shape to it, with an indented, rubber coated thumb rest and sharp curve on the far side for the ring and pinky finger to grip with. The sensor rest smack in the middle of the mouse body unlike the G500 which gives you a great feel and control when making large sweeps across your pad.

The sensor goes up to 1800 DPI although you'll likely not need to use it that high. At 400 DPI the pole rating is consistent and never waivers. With a bit of hardware hacking you can set up a custom driver that will allow the mouse to run at 500hz which it does just as well.

In 5 years I've not had an issue with the cord or connector every shorting. The mouse is also just the right weight for me. It's very light and has a great, responsive glide on my mousepad.

Cons: My palm grip rest right on the Logitec logo. While it doesn't bother my physically at all, the paint of the logo has never been worn off.

I've also read elsewhere that the sensor as some small amount of x/y prediction which can hinder your aim at times. Maybe I'm just inexperienced or not sensitive to the prediction because I haven't noticed it.

Other Thoughts: I'm FINALLY replacing it with a Razer Deathadder. It's been a fantastic mouse over the years but the software support and customization is somewhat limited in this modern day and I really want to see what a newer, well received gaming mouse has to offer.

5 out of 5 eggs6 Years and Still Works Near Perfectly

Pros: It's dead accurate. I've used this mouse with all of my Mac computers in OS X and it's been the only mouse that performs reliable. I've tried the MX Performance, Revolution, G700, Mad Catz Rat 7, and a few others. Where all those fail is their ridiculous acceleration; all of them sway when trying to point on a particular object/area. The MX518 is the only one thats predictable without the PITA acceleration.

Shape is fantastic, I've used this mouse for the last 6 years and its fit perfectly. I've also owned an MX500 (eventually broke) and still have an MX510 (for work) thus having worked on the same shape for over a decade. The MX518 is my preferred mouse at home both for work and gaming. Mouse feet surprisingly are still intact except for one!

When paired with USB Overdrive in OS X this mouse is highly customizable with different functions for all buttons for different applications including games.

Cons: Would like to see the DPI buttons have the option of being turned off and set as regular buttons for shortcuts in Adobe Creative Suite, or when gaming for other controls. In OS X Mavericks this is possible with USB Overdrive.

The small crevices pick up quite a bit of dirt.

The rubber matte finish eventually wears out.

The three buttons above and below the scroll wheel have become slightly 'soft' on the press, but this is acceptable after 6 years of use.

The Logitech logo has completely worn out.

Gunk collects on the glossy finish and scroll wheel.

An extra scroll wheel on the side, like on the Mad Catz Rat 7 would be nice (quick undo/redo shortcuts or other functionality like timeline panning in Adobe After Effects).

Other Thoughts: I picked up another brand new unopened MX518 on fleeBay for $110. I do expect my current one to fail eventually, but I'd like to continue using one of its kind, thus the backup. 6 years of use and the mouse still performs almost exactly as brand new. I have the MX510 for work as well. Both I completely customize for use with Photoshop and Illustrator; side buttons are set to pan, zoom out to fit, top buttons have other settings. This is awesome for workflow.

Side buttons are perfectly positioned for FPS gaming. I use the back button as 'shift' which is usually set to run. This is great as the forward button is set to an alternate fire which allows me to be able to forward while holding back with ease.

Due to the matte rubber finish wearing out, I'm thinking of disassembling the mouse and giving the rubber matte area a new paint job giving the entire mouse a gloss finish.

Cleaning the mouse's internals is relatively easy, though after 6 years I would have expected more dust. Scroll wheel got the most gunk of all things.

Pros: It's just the perfect mouse. I have three of these and theyve all been working for a few years+ now. Elon Musk even uses this mouse. Enough said.

5 out of 5 eggsSad to find they're discontinued

Pros: I've had this mouse for 5 years and was planning on buying one for my friend for Christmas who also has one but unlike mine, his is going out(probably because he slams it a lot when he dies in a FPS)

This mouse is absolutely flawless! it's sad that I had to find out they were not making anymore

Cons: Discontinued

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have had this mouse since 2005 when it released. I paid $44 dollars for it on newegg.

It still clicks, still works, the slippery feet on the bottom are missing from so much use.

the cracks are packed with dead skin, and dirt, debre etc etc.

The usb wire has been spliced and re wired more than 3 times, from being chewed in half.

After all of this.. It still works perfect!

It has been through these video cards in multiple builds, in the same case.

9600XT Ati, 9500 Pro Ati, Nvidia 6600 GT 128mb,
Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256mb, Ati X850XT, Ati X1800 256mb, Ati 4850 512mb, Nvidia 9600GT 512mb

Nvidia GTX 260 896mb, gtx 460 nvidia, AMD 7770 ghz model.

It is being used with a GTX 780 right now in my, 4820k build, X60 water cooled NZXT 530.

This mouse will last forever, and it still works like new.

Cons: It is a wired ole timer gaming mouse

5 out of 5 eggsBest Mouse Ever

Pros: I was looking back at some old orders I had and saw the mouse that I've been using for gaming. (5/10/2008)

I looked down and there it was still working today as I write this. (10/3/2013)

This is the best mouse I have ever owned. I really hope to find it again someday, because I'll buy them up incase I ever lose this one, because I don't think I can break it. I've dropped this thing, stepped on it, moved more times than I care to think about. I've also played so many games on it, I'm surprised it still makes the same click noise it did out of the box.

Cons: Newegg doesn't carry discontinued items. Logitech, decided to make mice that weren't this one.

Oh, there is one problem, on the bottom some of the words faded off the ink, and it no longer says MX 518. So what happens if I develop some sort of memory problem in my old age decades from now, and I can't remember what the mouse is called? How would I even begin trying to find a new one. What then Logitech, what then!?

Other Thoughts: Mouse may outlast me, nullifying my previous concerns.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mouse!

Pros: Have had this for over 4 years now. Never had a problem. Still looks almost brand new (Except a little wear on the Logitech Sign). Still a High precision gaming mouse! Shape is very sleek, the material its made out of is very comfortable.

4 Years and I've never had to clean the laser out. Have never had a problem with skipping or not having it respond. 10/10!

Cons: None at all! 4 years of heavy use and it still looks/performs like its brand new!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This mouse has never failed me. I have always been happy when using this mouse. I have a perfect system when using the buttons for internet browsing as well.

Cons: I really can't name any. This has been my best mouse to date. Over 4 years.

Other Thoughts: It is a lightweight mouse that responds perfectly to any commands you give it. As others have said, a cold day in hell when this was discontinued..
