1 out of 5 eggsBad lot?

Pros: Good price.

Cons: Worked fine for a year then wouldn't open. Thought it might be a fluke, but - I bought 4 of these at the same time and all 4 have the same problem, won't open. I replaced them with Sony optiarc units and have had no problems all all. The Sony's are also faster. Won't buy Lite On again.

Other Thoughts: The low quality is reflective of the low price. You get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: I purchased this over 5 years ago and it still is working well. It burns cd's extremely fast and does its job.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend now getting a much faster DVDR writer now, since they are on the market.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Worth Buying

Pros: Price, Brand, Support all very good. 1st thing I have done after installing the drive is go to the support site http://us.liteonit.com/us/ download the latest firmware and flash the drive. I have bought 3 since last October '06 and together they have burned over 1000 DVD's with Data, CAD Drawings, and a host of assorted other files from MP3s to ISOs and only rarely has there been a bad burn, and always it has been because of a conflict with another application running in background such as a virus scan.

Cons: The software that comes with it is less than reliable, I use Clone DVD, AnyDVD, Windows XP, DVD Fab Platinum and a host of other backup DVD or CD products and they all worked better than Nero, which is a shame. If they are going to include a program, it should work seamlessly I would figure their engineers swamped inside information on design and adapted but "they did not".

Other Thoughts: This is not the fastest drive, it works better with DVD -R as I found that +R DVDs do not always play in other devices as well as the -R, I have used several brands of DVD they all seem to work as well, when I have cropped DVD movies from DVD 9 to DVD 5 format I discovered that slowing the speed does produce flawless results, pushing the envelope does not always work well. For best results follow these steps.

1. Up date the drives firmware
2. 1gig of memory at least 512meg in your recording system
3. Stop background applications (Get offline "the internet" first)
4. Use DVD -R
5. Back down from the top speed, if the software says it can do 20x use 16x
6. Use different DVD/CD programs to create you disc, not all systems, circumstance favor one program.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, solid DVD Burner

Pros: Great burner, does anything I'd want it to. Well, just about...

Cons: No lightscribe Technology. This may not be important for most people, but after I bought it, I wished I would have held out for a burner with lightscribe on it.

Other Thoughts: Great burner, and great value. Strong buy!

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good

Pros: Cheap. Can't beat that. Burns + and - DVDs, fairly quickly at that.

Cons: I did loose a good amount of blank disks (CD and DVD) for a period. I updated the firmware and used something other than Nero to burn, haven't lost a disk since.

Other Thoughts: Since I've updated the firmware and use Nero less often, it has been running fine. I've had mine for about a year and a half, so odds are you won't run into this problem. Still, wouldn't hurt to check on the latest firmware update. Four eggs since my previous DVD burner was more secure (didn't loose any disks), but this still works fine after a year and a half.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Horrible online support, dvd drive was bought a year before it died but saw almost zero use. I don't understand how something thats almost never used can die.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat burner-- and cheap!

Pros: I've had this thing for a year, and have burned quite a few DVDs (and a couple CDs as well). It burns quickly and I have never had one fail. Reading appears to be on par with every other drive I've had.

Cons: Never found any.

Other Thoughts: Good price for a reliable and fast burner...
