The SHM-165H6S Half-Height Black Internal DVD Writer from LITE-ON is a high performance, all-in-one drive that allows you to read and burn DVDs, VCDs, Audio CDs, and Double Layer DVDs. You can write DVD±R up to 16X, which means you can burn a full DVD in 6 minutes or less. Re-write DVD+RW and DVD-RW at speeds up to 8X and 6X and read DVDs at speeds up to 16X.
With DVD±RW and CD-RW capabilities, you can easily create custom DVDs or data CDs for back-up or for data transfer purposes. This drive is capable of playing all your existing CD-ROMs, DVD movies, Music CDs, and CDs that you have created with your CD burner, both 8 cm and 12 cm disc.. The incorporated Smart-Burn technology automatically adjusts the writing strategy and OPC to provide excellent burning quality.

Great Burner, Great Price
- Pros: I've always purchased Lite-On drives due to the reliability and lack of coasters. I've never had a coaster with any lite on. This drive was a replacement to a year old Lite-On that fried when one of my Molex connecters on my system shorted - Took out 2 HD's and both my DVDRW drives. Oh well it happens.
I've only owned this drive for 1 day and burned 8 Dual Layer DVD's - 6 Mins per Dual Layer and 3 per DVD and about a minute for CDR's.
To the individual saying this drive is incomplete - No its not. Its clearly stated that this is a OEM not Retail package. Which means it comes with Nero and Power DVD. The lightscribe software is about 1 meg and can be d/ld at www.lightscribe.com in about 5 seconds.
- Cons: Lightscribe burns slow 1-5 mins for a basic label and about 20-30 for a detailed label using the best quality setting.
Do NOT use nero as it will burn lightscribe incorrectly. Use the free software on the Lightscribe website.
- Other Thoughts: I made the mistake of ordering this 3 days before thanksgiving and had to wait 7 days before it arrived. But otherwise great product and great service from new egg.
Never the prettiest girl on the block
- Pros: Price... Price ... Price... hear that Plextor, TDK, and HP.
- Cons: Sure as the other reviewers said Lightscribe is slow but it's slow on an HP $150 DVD burner as well...
- Other Thoughts: Lite-on hardly ever makes it to the "KickA**" or Five Star review selections, they may be the wallflower at the dance but they make one heck of a good product. I have own six brands of DVD/CD burners of them only Sony & Lite-on never failed. When you consider as well price/performance ratio Lite-on becomes the girl you take home.

It was good for a While
- Pros: The light scribe feature was great for labeling song tracks and even putting background .bmp images on DVDs. It worked quickly and well with the included Nero software.
- Cons: 6 months later: The lightscribed text on a disc is barely visible. It has almost completely pooped out. It has also begun to spin and not read program/music cds and locking up computer.
- Other Thoughts: To sum up. Great at first but disappointing in the (not so) long run. I suggest avoiding this brand.
- Pros: Excellent price and it fit right in the PC. burns a decent Lightscribe image.
- Cons: does not have a very long life span. 120 lightscribe discs later and 6 months from purchase, it failed.
Never seems to be in stock since i bought it.
- Other Thoughts: this is the second Lite-On burner that has failed on me, this one in 6 months, the other in a month. might be time to change brands.
- Pros: Great DVD burner. Haven't had any problems in the year I've had it. It's pretty quiet too.
- Cons: None really.
