Does not run in Vista
- Pros: It's SATA
- Cons: I have Vista x64 Home Premium gaming machine. I thought I was getting a great deal on this and buy was I wrong. It does not and will not read or write DVD-R's period. I can read dvd movies, and read and write to cd-r's cd-rw's.
- Other Thoughts: Do not buy if making a Vista machine. Lite-On told me this drive does not work with Vista and won't.
Very Nice
- Pros: The drive works, first and foremost. Plays CD-ROM's, CD's, and so forth with speed. Haven't had one issue with burning. Great price.
- Cons: The drive CAN be cause a fair share of noise. DVD's aren't always read with the utmost speed.
- Other Thoughts: Its the best drive I've had so far, and the good surely outweighs the bad. Even more so for a budget.
No Firmware / Incorrect Device Recognition
- Pros: Looks nice, works alright (mostly).
- Cons: Nero (both Nero 6 and Nero 7) recognizes this as a DVD burner, but it's not. What I mean is, this device shows up in Nero as having the option to burn to DVD, when in fact, it cannot. This has caused my computer to freeze up a couple of times. This drive has been out plenty long enough for firmware to be released, but there is no firmware for this model. Lite-On's response to this problem was not helpful. I should have stuck with IDE optical drives. As far as I can tell, SATA has no real benefit for optical drives. I never had a problem with IDE drives.
