Pros: Solid Performace on Single Layer Blu - Ray moies and personally created media.
This Drive has a serious problem with Dual Layer Blu-Ray Movie Playback. Such as Transformers and 10,000 BC. Please see below.
Cons: I bought 10,000 BC three weeks ago. The drive did not recognizing the movie, or the movie ‘Jumper’. When I first received the movie the drive would not detect the movie, it kept saying no disk inserted. I exchanged the movie, but this time I made sure it played in the store and it did. When I brought it home it gave me the same problem. But because I knew it worked, I kept trying to see what I could do. I upgrade the firmware to the CP56 file on LiteON’s site, and still nothing. But I kept trying and finally it played but with lots of distortion, every 30 seconds or so, throughout the entire length of the movie. The drive plays other BLURAY movies without any problems.
I called LiteON tech support and they confirmed the movie ‘Jumper’ will not work with my drive. They also confirmed that the drive, DH-401S, (continued in other thoughts:)
Other Thoughts: They also confirmed that this LiteON Drive will have problems playing all Dual Layer Blu-Ray media. This means most of the high quality new movies with intense special effects will not play well with this drive.
I only recommend this drive as a secondary drive or for playback of home created content.

How to find Lite-on firmware

Pros: Great value for money. Firmware update is available if you go to the Lite-On GLOBAL (not North America) website.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Some users have mentioned that Lite-on doesn't have firmware available ; actually they do, but you have to choose 'Global/English' instead of the 'U.S.' website. You should then be able to find DH-4O1S under the optical drive products, and there is firmware that was released on 2/15/08 (I'm writing this on 2/20/08)

Blu-Ray on the Cheap!

Pros: Got it ripping Blu-Ray to to my hard drive and it works great! This is a nice cheap way to get high-def content on your media box. It is longer than your other DVD drives so be prepared.
Cons: They'll come out with faster drives eventually I think. It takes me an hour to rip a Blu-Ray at about 3X.
Other Thoughts: I didn't get any software when I got it but I'm running Nero Showtime with plugins. I tried PowerDVD and didn't like it as much. Nero plays the stuff on your hard drive just fine.

Pros: plays old blurays
Cons: DOES NOT PLAY NEW BLURAYS WITH SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE DRIVE. YOU MUST SPEND $5X.00-$9X.00 TO PLAY NEW BLURAY MOVIES.
Other Thoughts: and yes, I am 100% sure of this. All movies since i got Street Kings/indiana jones ish era on bluray will NOT play on the cyberlink powerdvd software that comes with the drive. old blurays still work fine.

Pros: Works good so far but have only tried Iron Man which works flawlessly. Shipped with cable and OEM PowerDVD 7.3. Came with latest firmware installed.
Cons: none so far.
Other Thoughts: The blue LED was a nice surprise. Matches the color but thankfully not train headlight brightness of the LED on my HAF 932 that will shine through an inch thick board.
