Sony Blue Ray Player
- Pros: Had a beautiful picture & all was well, for 1 & 1/2 movies. It stoped reading in the middle & I spent another day trying to find something other than the drive to be responsible. I was thinking that Sony would know how to build a blue ray drive...It is their design!
- Cons: Didnt last.
- Other Thoughts: New Egg, as always, had the original order to me in 2 days, aproved the RMA in 1. but the drive will have been there for a week befor they ship the new one, & it is going to take another week to get here! This is the first time I have had this sort of delay in an order or RMA in almost 10 years of service.
Works great
- Pros: Very quiet
Price Easy setup Dim green light doesn't distract while watching movies Software included Matches my Optiarc DVD RW drive
- Cons: None so far
- Other Thoughts: Got the drive from UPS yesterday and dropped it in right away. Booted the computer up (Vista business) and it was recognized right away. Ran the PowerDVD 7.2 setup and let it download the updates from the net. Ran the updates and was able to start watching movies. Watched a 2hr movie without a hiccup on a modest home build from about 2 years ago.
AMD 64 X2 2.6ghz, 4GB DDR2 800, EVGA 8600GT via DVI cable to a 22" Samsung LCD monitor.
Better than expected
- Pros: Quiet, strong in readability. Easy installation and Blue Ray works OK
- Cons: None. PowerDVD 7.3 player is only a 2 CH version but you cannot ask too much, it's free
- Other Thoughts: Install it with a Windows7 HTPC, AMD 2.1Ghz single-core, 780G/B700 chipset, 2GB memory, 1080p LCD. CPU runs 65% (with CnQ) on playing BD DVD. No frame lost
After install PowerDVD 7.3, Rename the "OLRSubmission" folder to "Submission" in your installation to get rid of the registration popup
