4 out of 5 eggsEarly bird gets the worm

Pros: I bought this product over the 360 drive cuz it BURNS DVDs. I know... much too expensive for a dvd burner... but hey!

Cons: Did anybody get the PowerDVD 7.0 that's supposed to come with this thing??? my link doesn't work!!
the rubber feet used to hold this thing down are WEEK! my drive has fallen off of my minitower COUNTLESS times thanks to the manual loading tray. SURE hope I don't break it someday.

Other Thoughts: I got mine to work with the minimum Radeon 1550, proper cpu/ ram, vga connection. Even used an old monitor (an LCD though... but an old one). You don't need HDCP unless you use DVI. The IFO driver that comes with the drive, however, wouldn't install for some reason... so I did have to install AnyDVD's free trial for the IFO driver..
The price will go down... and quick... but I don't care -_-

2 out of 5 eggstoshiba HD dvd Drive

Pros: its a cheap price if you get it to work. need a dual core 7200 and 256MB video it didnt say that on the ad!

Cons: the spec its need to run wasnt on the web site. couldnt get it to run the driver disk. Plus the cyber link download was a bad link or they took it off.

Other Thoughts: order the Xbox HD dvd drive. Loaded Cyberlink power DVD 6.5 and anyDVD Hd. I got it to work, and the picture is real sweet!

4 out of 5 eggsI wonder where they found this?

Pros: As long as your not seeking a HD-DVD disk this thing is quiet and sort of fast But with a HD disk there is a lot of head seeking before it locks in As for the Drive it's tray loaded but the drive is an lap top drive in an ex case fire wire would have been nice but the USB 2 keeps up even with the HD DVD's

Cons: No HD BURNER and you know as well as anyone else that this thing is not worth the price (milk them while you can) good news is that the drives are out that will Burn HD-DVD! and the price of something like this will drop to the floor

Other Thoughts: For some reason the driver from Toshiba would not load (UDF 2.5) with out this one you don't have an HD drive and of as you would know they put within a program so you can't just pop it in BUT you can find the driver on the line since HD is Toshibas baby any HD driver works (look around the xbox sites if you have the same problem).

2 out of 5 eggsThe good, bad and the ugly

Pros: Drive Hw is as advertised. To early to say much more.

Cons: Drive comes with a certificate for free download of PowerDVD Ultra but the link download link doesn't work. Contacted Cyberlink and they know nothing of any such free download and refused to help me further.

Other Thoughts: Toshiba customer support is the worst I have experienced. I spent over 8 hours trying to contact the group that supports this product. In the process I was given 8 different telephone numbers to call and none of them were correct.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst One! w00t!!!

Pros: Very aggressive drive. Fast spin up and overall speed. The seek on HD playback is to be desired, but hey, it's the first!!!! It feels very sturdy, like a well built device. I'm using it on my Dell XPS M1710 and it ROCKS!

Cons: 1x HD-DVD ROM speed :-(

Other Thoughts: A USB bus-powered interface would be nice for traveling, but I don't take many trips any ways. The 1x Speed is sufficient, but if it was faster, the seek time would be reduced and be greatly noticeable.

Go Toshiba for releasing the first External HD-DVD Drive!!! (Poor Blu-Ray fans must be sooo jealous :-D)
