If you want to be a participant instead of a spectator in the DVD format war, Sony has your weapon, the BWU-100A. The drive supports recording both 50 GB and 25 GB BD-R (write once) and BD-RE (rewritable) discs. This advanced Blu-ray burner will also handle all normal recordable optical media formats including dual layer discs.
With up to 50GB capacity on dual layer Blu-Ray discs you can store all of the video from your HD video camera in native format. This equals 4 hours of 1080 HD format video. This capacity makes it an ideal drive and format for archiving both home systems and business servers.
The PATA / IDE format ensures compatibility with most computers. This will let everyone join the High Definition video revolution.

Can't play movies
- Pros: High storage capacity
- Cons: This unit, while able to store lots of data for backup, does it extremely slowly.
The neat thing about this is that you can't watch blu-ray movies with it because there aren't any video cards capable of HDCP out there. What a waste.
Sweet
- Pros: Blu-ray, the discs can hold 25 - 50 gigs, though, storing that amount of space will take quite a long time, HDCP video cards are coming out, nVidia's 7950GT works wonders
- Cons: takes a long, long time to burn a lot of data, blu-ray movies arent all that much better quality than standard dvd's at this point, give it another year or so and this will get much better
- Other Thoughts: good buy if you have an extra 300 bux to put down on a HDCP video card... they do exist, just not a lot of them out at this point...
