5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Works perfectly. No problems. I installed it and it was recognized and installed automatically. I used it right away and it burned a dl disc without any problems. It is very fast asnd stable. It works great.

Cons: comes without a box.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a DL burner, buy this. It is the best for the price

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good..

Pros: Ive only owned this Drive for little over a month, however I'm on my 5th 50pack spindle and not a single coaster yet! I look out for ads and buy only media on sale so I've used several different brands with no problems.
Fast, reliable, and cheap!

Cons: no problems so far, so no real cons .

Other Thoughts: Ive only used DVD-R, CD-R, and CD-RW. What ever brand is on sale, havent tired anyother formats like +R or DL

5 out of 5 eggsOOPS - F/W Correction #2

Pros: I have not seen any speed impact--negative or otherwise--from this drive's 2MB cache. My Plextor 716A had an 8MB cache but died just past its warranty period, so I ask you--what good is its buffer now? Thank goodness AMEX has a Buyer Protection policy!

Cons: There are several, all of which are support-related, but none of which affect this drive's ability to perform flawlessly, quietly, and quickly. It just writes disks at a blazing pace. At its price, it's hard to think of anything to complain about (that I've experienced).

Other Thoughts: Sorry for the multiple review entries. My last correction about firmware versions was in error. The latest firmware for THIS drive is JL11. The latest firmware for its identical Hitachi brother is JJ11. LL11 is for a Lightscribe version, not this model. My bad--next time I'll be more careful. See any of several online optical drive forums for reviews and more detail.

5 out of 5 eggsA+++++

Pros: works better than my Blue Ray :D

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could paint the face easier, had to sand it down, and paint it, after a coat or two of primer. I think all Media Drives should come with spare face plates.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Burner

Pros: Works great in an older, XP system. Installed without a hitch and worked with all of my software (old and new). I have burned a 50cdr spindle and a 10 pack of DVD's with no problems. This drive runs very smooth and quiet. It's probably not the quickest, but for the price, it can't be beat.

Cons: As mentioned previously, this drive is no longer supported by LG. This was not an issue for me since it performs flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: I did not update the firmware because it works fine "as is".

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

2 out of 5 eggsNot pleased

Pros: Good specs, mostly

Cons: Low cache for speed

Other Thoughts: In our business we burn around 80 DVD's a month. We only use high-end Ritek blanks. We are constantly having buffer underrun problems. The drive we just replaced never had problems, so it's not the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect on Mac Computers

Pros: Works with OSX 10.4.7. Works well in Finder and Toast. Some people might need PatchBurn for the Finder, and OSX currently has broken DVD-RAM new disk formatting support (see my fix below).

Cons: Too bad there is no support for DVD-RAM cartridges, but that's normal nowadays.

Other Thoughts: To format a DVD-RAM for the first time in OSX 10.4:

Use Disk Utility to create a blank disk image (any type) that is 4.26 GB large. Then burn it as a file on a "Mac Only" file system in Toast (you may have to run the "Erase Disk" function first). Afterwards you can just delete (in the Finder) the "dummy" file on the DVD and recover the space! After this just use it as a normal disk.
