HDCP workaround
- Pros: see below
- Cons: see below
- Other Thoughts: Efflixi: just get AnyDVD HD, it gets rid of HDCP nonsense.
My monitor is NOT HDCP, and I watch them all, blu-ray, HD DVD...
Well worth the money
- Pros: Quiet, plays Blu-Ray and HD disks without any problems. I upgraded to Cyber Link Power DVD Ultra. Unbelieveable sound from my Bose Companion 5.
- Cons: Does not burn Hd or Blu-ray discs.
- Other Thoughts: Using a Pny GEForce 8600 GT card. Using component out to my Plasma TV. Will work flawlessly when in the Dual mode without any HDCP Capable problems. In my dual mode I cannot get the monitor and the tv to work at the same time.
The only way I get the movie to play on both my monitor and tv at the same time I have to select clone mode on my video card.
The only problem with using the clone mode is that HDCP Capable will not work and movie will not play. The only thing I was able to do to fix this was to have AnyDVDHD running in the background and it removed any HDCP protection problems.
I also was able to rip with AnyDVD Blu-Ray movie to my hard drive (50 GB) and Hd movie to my hard drive (25 GB) without any problems and was able to play it from my hard drive pefectly.
I wish I could fiqure out how to get it working with my xbox360 through the windows media connect. I tried playing the files through my 360 and did not work.

Nice, but doesn't play BluRay
- Pros: Hardware works great. Included software "LG Hi Def Suite" had every feature I could think of and seemed stable and pleasant to use.
- Cons: The included software "CyberLink PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra" (part of the LG Hi Def Suite) will not play recent retail BluRay discs. The software will get into an infinite loop of "Update Required", "Update Complete" without actually accomplishing anything on recent BluRay discs. CyberLink PowerDVD Tech support has sent me a specific patch for this drive that failed to resolve the issue, and now they simply say "Sorry".
Note that a trial version of AnyDVD HD software was able to bypass copy protection on the drive and allowed PowerDVD to play back discs, but since it's a 14 day trial and $100 software, as much as the drive itself costs, that's not an ideal solution.
No problems whatsoever.
- Pros: Very fast drive. Coming from a 6 year old DVD burner drive, this thing blew me away with it's speed. Plays Blu-Rays no problem and at an admirable speed.
- Cons: Haven't encountered any.
- Other Thoughts: Haven't tested HDDVD's because I do not own any, but I'm going to assume it works.
Not so fast...
- Pros: - Plays Blu-ray, I think.
- Burns DVDs ok.
- Cons: - Slow read for Blu-ray, DVD, everything.
- Power DVD 7 is garbage. - A bit too long for certain cases.
- Other Thoughts: The only way I am able to watch Blu-ray with these drives, is by placing a Blu-ray disc in it, and ripping it to the hard drive. Otherwise, the video keeps breaking up due to slow read. - DO NOT get the OEM version of this, or you won't even get the bad Power DVD 7 that comes with the retail version. You will eventually have to get Power DVD 9 Ultra.
