The Samsung WriteMaster SH-S182D/BEBE is a triple-format EIDE/ATAPI drive which reads and burns DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD format media. Dual-layer DVD’s hold up to 8.5 GB of data, and are ideal for users who need to backup or share large amounts of data. The WriteMaster's 18X DVD writer takes less than 6 minutes to write 4.7GB of data to a DVD R/RW disc, and its advanced technology gives you coaster-free performance!

The unit is engineered with a Weight Balancing System that reduces drive noise; Speed Adjustment technology which matches the speed rating of the media; buffer under-run protection; Tilt Actuator Compensation to adjust for deformed writing surfaces on media; and Double Optimum Power Control, which balances the laser power on the sides of the disc for enhanced writing performance. WriteMaster makes backup and duplication of your vital data quick and economical.

  • newegg Ultra Fast 18X DVD Writing Speed With Samsung's cutting-edge WriteMaster technology, the SAMSUNG SH-S182D DVD Burner supports an ultra-fast 18X DVD+R/-R media writing speed to burn a 4.7GB DVD in fewer than 6 minutes.
  • newegg DVD-RAM Support In addition to DVD+R and DVD-R, the SAMSUNG SH-S182D DVD Burner also supports the DVD-RAM format for rewritable, random access recording, fast access to and re-use of the disc, as is the case in a hard drive.
  • newegg Dual-layer Support The SAMSUNG SH-S182D DVD Burner supports both DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL dual-layer formats with 8.5 GB storage capacity on a single-sided disc – almost double the capacity of a single layer disc. 5 out of 5 eggs5 years later and still going

Pros: I've owned this unit for over 5 years now, using it burn CD-Rs and DVD-Rs almost on a daily basis. This unit still works flawlessly, burn speeds are fast, no skips or flaws in data. Couldn't ask for anything more given that I paid so little for it.

Cons: Tray motor is starting to go, but that's pretty normal given how frequently I use it. Hardly a manufacturing defect.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Still works. Runs perfectly. Bought the 1st one in april of last year. Bought the 2nd a few months later. It has everything I need.

Cons: I bought them when they were $29.99 :(

Other Thoughts: If I ever need another, it will be this stallion.

5 out of 5 eggsBeats Sony by a mile!

Pros: Quiet operation.
Fast write.
Accurate reads, especially when writing .iso's

Cons: Haven't found any except maybe that it doesn't come in purple. (just kidding).

Other Thoughts: Have used LG, NEC, Sony. and Liteon drives over the past 10 years. None of these others measures up to this Samsung drive. LG comes close. I am currently running Samsung optical DVD writers in four of my eight computers.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Quiet

Pros: Fast, Quiet, great drive for a good price.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Other Thoughts: I have two of these in my machine - they're the best drives I've owned.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: It's quiet, which is all I wanted. My older drives sound like banshees in heat!

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works well; I've burned about 10 DVDs and tons of CDs and haven't created a coaster yet. Burn speed is fast, but I usually drop it down to avoid running out of write buffer.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous and Fast

Pros: Very fast copying capability, little on the noisy side but the speed more than compensates for that. In fact, i just bought one more.

Cons: None really except for some extraneous noise issues.

5 out of 5 eggsBurn baby burn

Pros: I had been using a DVD burner that could only handle 4x speed. So obviously, this is a vast improvement. It burned a 45 minute playlist in under two minutes using iTunes (with maximum burning speed in the settings). Can't wait to burn some DVDs and video files with this hardware. I can't forget to mention that it was delivered in just 3 days from California to Illinois. Thanks Newegg.

Cons: Makes a little noise when it cooks up, but other than that it's great.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than my last burner.

Pros: replaced a pioneer DVR-110 with this one, this is better. Was trying to get where I could burn at 16x without any lame issues, this seems to have solved that problem.

Cons: none that I have found.

Other Thoughts: I think i will go with sata next time.
