3 out of 5 eggsok while it lasts

Pros: first one lasted almost 23 months. just enough time to get it replaced through newegg. the replacement lasted a bit longer, 8.5 months. i have the pata version of this model it has lasted longer than that!

Cons: for whatever reason, 2 died in less than a year, while the pata model continues to work for an even lobger period of time.

4 out of 5 eggsdying out on me

Pros: Ii bought it to try out the SATA technology for cdrom to see if there is an improvement. It works and burns without problems. I use the lightscribing feature and dual layer burning as well. It has good disc compatibilities.

Cons: This is the 9th month I am using it and it developed some kind of reading problem. I could no longer burn disc successfully. And 9 out of 10 times it is unable to read the discs.

Other Thoughts: But for the length of time of working it was good.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the best with Lightscribe software on XP

Pros: Installed quick - XP recognized it. Good price

Cons: Seems like the Lightscribe software has trouble seeing this drive - have to reboot constantly to use it. Very slow.

Other Thoughts: Pehaps it's a Lightscribe software issue.
Also, the images and color are pretty poor. I guess DVDs just don't turn out too good looking.

5 out of 5 eggsDing Ding Ding, we have a winner

Pros: No coasters, High write speeds, pretty quite. Recognized immediately. No riplock.

Cons: Lightscribe seems a little blurry, not sure what I expected.

Other Thoughts: Needed a firmware update, but that's no biggy.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung Lightscribe Drive

Pros: You really can't go wrong when buying a Samsung drive these days. With a low price, and lots of high tech features, not to mention lightscribe, Samsung drives are a great value. This is one of the quietest drives i have ever owned, and it has a good read and write speed.

Cons: Lightscribe write times seem to be a little on the slow side.

Also: Newegg sent me this product with a Drives CD slashed by a box cutter. They were kind enough to send a replacement within two days. Thank you!

Other Thoughts: The SATA interface is nice, although there is no difference in write speeds. My only complain is a lack of a Molex 12V connector. I only have 3 SATA power ports on a Thermaltake 750W PSU, and i have 3 1/2 TB HDDS. I had to disconnect one of the drives (luckily I wasn't using) in order to hook up this drive.

Nice for Modders (like me) who want to keep their case looking neat!

1 out of 5 eggsthis DVD writer is JUNK!

Pros: none

Cons: from day one, this burner was a problem. I updated the firmware, but it made no difference. The only driver is the one that comes with XP, so there was not an updated driver issue. Once I removed the drive, all my programs began behaving correctly. I requested an RMA too late for a refund. I'm hoping NewEgg has run out of stock and will send an alternative burner. We'll see....
