The Samsung WriteMaster SH-S203B is a triple-format SATA drive which reads and burns DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD format media. Dual-layer DVD's hold up to 8.5 GB of data, and are ideal for users who need to backup or share large amounts of data. The WriteMaster's 20X DVD writer takes only five and a half minutes to write 4.7GB of data to a DVD±R disc.

A Weight Balancing System to reduce drive noise; Speed Adjustment technology to match the media needs; Tilt Actuator Compensation to adjust for deformed writing surfaces; and Double Optimum Power Control, which balances the laser power on the sides of the disc for enhanced writing performance. WriteMaster makes backup and duplication of your vital data quick and economical.

Pros: Fast, fast, fast. Quiet, no trouble with over 12 types of brand name media. CHEAP PRICE!!! By far it beats any of the over priced and overrated Plextors out there.

Cons: None so far and I have beaten the stuffing out of this thing for about 3 months.

Other Thoughts: Normally, I am very loyal to Lite-On burners and still love them. However, some of the Lite-Ons take about 40 to 45 seconds of startup prep time before they actually start burning. Not this Samsung. It starts fast and gets burning! I bought it based on the recommendation from Maximum PC magazine. I do not regret that decision!!

Is SH-S203B and NOT SH-202B

Pros: High speed DVD burning, good quality DVD burns on most media, stable SATA drive, quiet, very good CD burner. cheap price, burn faster than rated media, good PI Failure even in high speed burns.

Cons: High PI Errors when burning in high speed, not as good as quality scanner as some other burners.

Other Thoughts: Please note: this drive is SH-S203B and there is no such thing as SH-202B (I already emailed newegg regarding this). There is another drive SH-202G which is similar to this drive but is a PATA drive. Overall I am very happy with this SATA CD/DVD burner, is well made and is a very fast DVD burner. Future firmwares will make this already very good drive even better. If you are looking for a good and FAST SATA CD/DVD burner consider this one.

Pros: It's SATA, and for the price this definitely is a great buy for anyone who only needs a cd/dvd burner drive. From coming from an old IDE drive this is a good step up, i can really notice the speed is much faster. I've had this for a few months, and still no problems.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: this is OEM so make sure you have a SATA cable layin' around

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Cheap. This thing arrived DOA. Saddly it is so cheap that RMA'ing it would cost almost as much as just buying a new one so what's the point.

Other Thoughts: Most hardware has a certain percentage of defects. This may or may not be my case. Who knows.
