Pros: very slim, light weight, decent quiet operation, no separate power cord (USB powered), comes with Nero essential software
Cons: have to carry separately, it may be a plus point for some who think that an optical drive is not necessary these days.
Other Thoughts: If you need ultra portability of your netbook or notebook, but still need an optical drive, then its worth buying.

Pros: Reads media just fine, a couple of disks that have some scratches that wouldnt work in my laptop drive work fine in this unit.
Cons: None thus far, bought it for roughly 20 dollars more at a local retailer because I get impatient and want things immediately sometime.
Other Thoughts: Bought for the sole purpose to read dvd's (both video dvd and data stored on dvd) for my acer aspire revo i use as an htpc. I havent done any recording or tested any transfer speed but it plays 1080p data recorded to a dvd-dl with no problems. I would have liked an option to use an ac power cord to avoid using an extra usb port. I havent tried it with just a single usb end connected but for reading disks I dont think I would have a problem if need it be
