Great Burner!
- Pros: Great burning speeds! I've bought several of these so far and they are all great. I have tried various forms of burnable media in this drive and have had no bad disc's. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a a great burner!
- Cons: None so far!
Great drive
- Pros: Great drive, super quiet, burns all the 16x rated disks i have at 20x, takes around 4 minutes to burn a dvd. No coasters from 50+ disks so far. So good i recommended to friends and family
- Cons: It wasn't free !
- Other Thoughts: DVD-RAM capability is not really useful any more, but always nice to have

started acting weird
- Pros: Well I bought one of this IDE version and also 3 other ones similar to this model, but with SATA connectors. When they work they are great. I mostly like the completely quiet recording. They provided the Nero7 software which is a great burning too, but it will only work with the Philips burner you bought with.
- Cons: From the four that I own, only one works flawlessly without problem. This IDE version and along with my other two Philips SATA ones begin to have problems detecting certain disc and problem with burning. I have tested them with three different computers, so it couldn't be my computer. Problems included unable to detect dual layers discs and sometimes can't read any disc at all, sometimes they read, sometimes they don't. I also tried switching sata cables and sata ports on my motherboard.
Does its job
- Pros: Does any format you want, burns well consistently at lower speeds
- Cons: Seems to freak out at max burning speeds; I did try a few different types of media, and found the same results on CD and DVDs. The burn will complete, but the disc will not be readable (or the drive will hang will seek alot when reading the disc). I burn with Nero and ImgBurn mostly.
- Other Thoughts: Drive seems a little louder than my other burner, the discs vibrate at high speeds. Maybe this is related to the burning problems? I may have just gotten a unit built on Friday, I'm still giving it 4 eggs, because a year and a few hundred discs later it's still working fine.
Lasted 1 year
- Pros: Worked very well for the first 6 months of use, it is loud when spinning but I live alone and that wasn't bad, it started to not recognize media not the cheap stuff but the recommended brand names, aprox 1 week ago 070508, purchased in 0607, it didn't eject unless the button depressed for 3 or more seconds, then wouldn't read any media, that my very old 4x dvd burner read and played without problem. Needless to say its a doorstop now, didn't pay much so I can't complain too much got a year but not doing Phillips again.
- Cons: Just the aforementioned
