Great, after its installed
- Pros: Works as advertised. Especially like page feeder with auto two-sided scanning and printing. Works well as network printer.
- Cons: Installation was one of those up-'til-3 am sessions. The software refused to recognize the printer. Or it would seem to recognize the printer, sit there 3 minutes, then change to the can't find printer message. Very frustrating. Judging by the number of times they give an (ineffective) recovery procedure in their documentation, this is a very common problem. Why don't they just fix it? I finally got the thing to load by downloading drivers from the website.
- Other Thoughts: The installation problem cost 1 egg. The printer works well, but if you don't enjoy fooling around with installation problems, I suggest you pass up this model.
- Pros: ADF, Double sided prints, print quality
- Cons: Faxing requirements, bloatware software package, large and heavy.
- Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy this printer if you send/receive faxes from the same phone line as voice. Buried in the Manual it says:
"If you want to use a single telephone line for faxes and voice calls, you need to connect a telephone or an answering machine to the External Device Jack of this machine. "
So....to use all the great fax features you must put all your home/office phones and answering machines down-line of this device! Truly unrealistic if you have a two story home with answering machine downstairs and fax-printer upstairs.
Just like new
- Pros: Network and double side print. Came boxed just like a new printer. Easy set up with home network - prints via 2 desktops and 2 laptops via wireless router. Upgraded from the Canon 780 for the network capability and automatic double sided printing. No problems with printer to date.
- Cons: Ink cost more than for my old Canon 780. $15 per cartridge vice $10.
