HP thought of everything when they designed the Officejet Pro L7780 all-in-one inkjet printer, including WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, auto-duplexing, a 3-second per page fax with junk fax barrier, legal-sized scanning platen, and one-touch controls for color and black and white scanning, copying, and faxing.

The reliable 50-sheet automatic document feeder lets you spend your time working, instead of tending the machine as you copy or fax. With 600-sheet paper capacity (in 2 trays), you won't have to worry about incoming faxes being lost because the printer ran out of paper over the weekend, either!

HP's Real Life technology automatically optimizes your photos for printing and corrects red eye, while Image Zone helps you edit photos and create stunning photo brochures. All your printed media will make a polished, professional impression, thanks to the L7780's 4800 x 1200 dpi print and 2400 dpi scan resolutions, and you can do it all with or without your computer! HP's fade-resistant ink dries quickly, reducing smudges, and the printer will even tell you when it's time to re-order. Give your small office network a huge boost in productivity with the Officejet Pro L7780 printer!

1 out of 5 eggsWouldnt buy

Pros: It prints

Cons: Unreliable, I have had numerous issues with this printer. Wont scan to computers from time to time. Dose not auto select tray based on you print job. It will auto fit to what ever paper size it finds in tray one.

IP address has to be set static according to tech support.
This is by far the worst printer i have ever worked with. I really wish i could send it back to get my money back.......

2 out of 5 eggsAlot of bang, too much buck, not reliable

Pros: Nice look, great features, lot's of buttons and blinky lights...

Cons: EXTREMELY slow to initialize at power up. A lot of action going on, with no clear understanding of why it's going through so much initialization!

I bought this unit to replace a dead (firmware failure/not repairable) 7400 AIO and right out of the box, this new one wouldn't duplex print. Kept erroring out and requring me to restart printer. Looking at the pages after a failed print, it looks like somewhere in the paper path there is something causing the pages to hand...giving the error. Opened up the case, but there isn't any readily available spots to fix it.

Other Thoughts: Other cons: Loud, lots of vibration, paper path is not "clearable", wireless was an issue at first, but I tackled that. Cartridges - 4 plus 2 removable print heads...wow. Heavy too.

Not sure where to go at this point. Will replace with NewEgg (by the way, BEST service of ANY I've tried) and hope I get a better unit this time.

5 out of 5 eggsRTM and you will fall in LOVE!!!

Pros: Love it, Love it, Love it!!!! Sorry guys but I cannot say it more. I am a super geek. I live to destroy items like this unit. If everyone that had given this unit a bad review would have taken a least 1 extra minute to not rush the setup of this unit, they would have had an awesome experience like I had. I use this printer via wireless with my BEC7300N DSL router. The 4 page instruction booklet was phenomenal. This printer more than delivered on what they said it can and will do. I will definitely be buying another one of these unit, in about 5 or 6 years.

Cons: Large unit.

Other Thoughts: Read The Manual!!!

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of $%!?

Pros: 2 paper trays, duplexer, wired+wireless, bluetooth capable (but not included)

Cons: I should have sent back to Newegg as soon as the problems started! Wired connection was DOA so used it wireless until replacement showed up. 2nd unit killed a printhead (according to HP) so they sent another printhead. 2nd printhead is now dead so I will need to send that back too.

Software is garbage!!!!!! I had/have OfficeJet 7210 installed for a few years and that software was junk too, but I could kill a few of the startup processes and it was tolerable. This piece of dung wouldn't install so I wiped the PC clean of HP software and started fresh. This worked, but printer died (see above). When replacement arrived, software would not work with the new unit. So, I did it all again... Then the printhead started failing so I re-installed the 7210 and began using that (without much trouble). Then the replacement printhead showed up and all hell broke loose!

Other Thoughts: I couldn't get the software to recognize the printer on my network (even though it installed perfectly on another workstation). I then went and uninstalled EVERYTHING (yet again)..... Now the software won't install and no manner of system cleanup will get it to work. I used the HP cleanup software but it still won't run.

I am at least 8 hours into this hunk of junk and I am still printing on the 7210 that it was meant to replace!!! (NOTE: I can't even install the 7210 on the 1 workstation, all HP software fails - so I am sharing from the 1 "good" workstation in order to print for now...)

If I have to talk to another tech that has difficulty understanding what I am saying only to have them send me a refurbished product as a replacement - I am going to lose my mind!

Word of mouth - that's why this thing is $250 off the regular price... it is junk, people spoke, I DIDN'T LISTEN! Do yourself a favor and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic All-in-One with Every Option Out There

Pros: Extremely fast printing. Excellent print quality. It pretty much has every single all-in-one option you can think of. Has a really nice and easy to use interface from both the computer software and the color on-screen display. The auto-duplexer is great. I have used it many times to cut my paper usage in half. It does take longer to print using it because it has to let each page dry for a few seconds before it can print on the other side.

I really like the individual ink cartridges and the consumer replacable printheads. The auto low power standby is very nice too, and you are able to select a couple different timers for it depending on your usage.

The bundled software seems pretty nice so far.

With this machine I will probably never wind up going to a print shop again since this machine can handle whatever you want to throw at it.

Cons: The ink cartridges and printhead cartridges are really nice but on the expensive side. Auto-doc feeder is strong, fast, and agressive. You really need to make sure that your documents are perfectly straight when putting them in or they will get chewed edges.

This next part might not be a con, so please read carefully. There is a program you can install that's intended to be a better file search engine than that that is built into Windows. It worked fine and still does. But when I installed a new video card the search box on the Win XP toolbar went from about 1.5" to 5". I have not been able to correct the size, so I can't have the quick search box on the toolbar anymore because I don't have the room. Again not sure if this is the program's fault or not.

Other Thoughts: Be sure that you download the latest software, driver, and firmware from HP. This isn't so much a con as if you don't you will have tons of problems from what others have said. But this is good advice for anything you install on your computer.

I only have this machine connected to one computer directly with a USB cable. Eventually I will connect it to a print server. Others have said they had issues using the WiFi or when connected to multiple machines. I have not been able to test this as of yet.

Some people have commented about the noise and shaking of this machine as it prints and listed it as cons. I really don't see that as a fair con. You have to keep in mind this a large office piece of equipment. Because it prints so fast it is going to make noise and it is going have some shaking to it as the printheads are zipping back and forth at very high speed. If you want a quieter machine that isn't going to have any motion to it then you have to go laser.

3 out of 5 eggsNetworking is excellent

Pros: Excellent print. Fast black and white. Digital filing and having it scan directly to .pdf is wonderful. The 88x toner prints reasonable quantities per unit. Faxing from your computer is fantastic and saves a substantial amount of paper.... if it installs.

Cons: Loud when printing and scanning. Document feeder is very temperamental and does not feed over 5 sheets reliably enough to be unattended. Software can be a nightmare if the initial setup is interrupted. Computer number one was perfect, number two had a malfunction mid-install.

Other Thoughts: We have two. The 7760 non wireless has a better doc feeder.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldnt buy it

Pros: Printer works well when its not locked up.

Cons: If the printer losses hard network connection it locks up.

If you use wireless it locks up shortly after boot.

If it sits for an extended period of time it locks up.

Other Thoughts: Attempting to return for a refund. Or credit

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Printer

Pros: This is the third OJ 7XXX printer I purchased. My wife is a teacher... The first two were 7310s and were used for more than 70,000 total copies. This printer is easily the best of the three. The 7310s didn't die, I gave them to my children and they are still running. I am running the 7780 as a wireless device off a router with little reading and no problems.

Cons: The cost of HP ink and the level of training generally available for printer telephone support.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far So Good!

Pros: Purchased this to replace ,old, seperate fax, scanner and printer equipment that would not work with Vista. So far I've been very happy with the unit. I have not had the problems that many have described in previous reviews. I took peoples review comments to heart and used the HP download software, a fixed IP address and made sure that all the packing material was removed from the printer, including those hidden spots. The set up went flawlessly on 3 computers --- 2 with Vista and one with XP and 3 different security packages (Windows, Mac & Norton). I did not have the conflict with existing HP printer or scanner softare as some have mentioned. I like the scanner being ablle to do legal documents as well as do multiple pages with the document handler. Duplex printing works good and both trays are available through software selections.
My wife ( if she can work it, anyone can) and I have used 110lb card stock to specialty papers and label stock without any problems.

Cons: Duplex printing tends to be a little slow and the printer waits for ink to dry before doing the second page. Scanning directly to Adobe ver. 7 is a little sporty as the HP scanning software tends to get in the way and slow the process down.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I like the printer for purpose that I purchased it for. Good quality output, works well networked (using fixed IP address) and does a great job of scanning. The Solution Center on the XP machine also picked up (seperate tab) another HP printer attached.
