Reliable printer that just works
- Pros: The printer supports many operating systems. All major OS are support including Windows, Linux and Mac. Compared to my past laser colors, it's much smaller. It's about the size of an average B/W laser from 10 years ago. Setup and administration is perfect via the web interface.
- Cons: I have a major problem with the drivers. The universal print driver installs a silly print manager. Honestly, I expect a printer to just print. Especially a laser printer. The print drivers have all sorts of notifications that pop up outside of the normal windows notifications. To be fair, I only see this on windows. The OS X drivers do not seem to be too intrusive.
- Other Thoughts: This was a great replacement printer. My users have not reported any issues with the printer since I installed it. I can imagine toner maybe a little pricey when it's time to replace it. However, this is the case with most (if not all) color lasers.
Really Unreliable
- Pros: - Very simple to operate and maintain.
- Simple style and design that doesn't look out of place. - Really Easy to get going out of the box. - The wireless networking feature makes printing very easy from all the computers connected to the network.
- Cons: - In color mode it prints very slowly. (4 ppm)
- Other Thoughts: What can I say? You get what you pay for!
It printed 29 pages over the course of 14 days or so. All of a sudden the Red LED of Death comes on. The power supply to the imaging unit and stepper motors is blown. AKA Cycle Power Error. So it is now a 38 lb paperweight.
Loved it, until it broke
- Pros: Good print quality. Wifi printing works good.
- Cons: Broke within 3 days. Power supply fried. Now I have to pony up the cash to send back to Newegg.
- Other Thoughts: I've been using newegg for years, and I really don't like their return policy. It's going to cost me 1/3 of the price I paid for the printer to return it to them. You pay a premium with a brick and mortor store, but at least you aren't on the hook for defective hardware.
