Pros: Packed with features and set up is a breeze. Researched like kind machines and found this one to be well rounded and offered what I needed and a little more. This is my second Brother printer...just retired a MFC-420CN..had it about 4 years and still as reliable as the day I put it into service. Wireless works better than most and the large format ability is good to have. I do recommend using brother paper as the HP stuff I used with my old Brother printer wants to double feed where the Brother paper does not. No jams with the double feed just annoying..Brother paper feeds perfect. I have multiple OS machines in the office...all work well with this box. Other reviewers complain about not so black, black printing...I don't see any issue as my text is crisp and plenty black. Colors are strong and ink economy is as good as any if not better... The software suite is robust and creates little overhead on my systems. The duplex feature is too cool!
Cons: It's big....
Other Thoughts: I worked on printers years ago both desktop and commercial and find the layout to be solid and fairly easy to get to if needed.....never had to crack the cover on my old Brother printer...looking forward to more of that here.

Missed Opportunity

Pros: The printer does it all. Print, scan (11x17), auto duplex printing, fax. The network setup was painless too. I use static IPs and still encountered no problems with connectivity. Printing/Scanning quality seems to be as good as other printers I've used of similar manufacturer dates.
Cons: If you use MAC filtering you'll have a little extra work to do. This printer does not display it's MAC address. Not in the setup, front panel, nameplate, etc. I had to use the command prompt "ARP" command to get the MAC.
The included drivers did not support Windows 7. You must download the utility from Brother's website.
Other Thoughts: My printer was DOA. Right out of the box the black would not print. I called Brother and went through the troubleshooting process. They could not figure it out so, under warranty, they offered to ship me a replacement 'refurbished' model. I told them I didn't feel it was fair to buy a new printer and immediately have to trade it for a used model. They said they would send a new printer, but the one I got looks refurbished. The ink inlets are stained the appropriate color and there are minor blemishes. The printer does work this time though. I usually stick to HP for printers but this had what I needed. I would definitely buy an HP model over this if they made an 11x17 all in one.

Well Engineered Overall

Pros: In the past, I have only looked at HP or Canon, but Brother really stepped up to the plate and offered what I really look for in a practical AIO (All-In-One): digital faxing, 11x17 native surface, reasonable pricing. I don't want photo lab quality prints for my pictures, I usually send that stuff out anyway, if at all...a good monitor/TV is better for pics anyhow these days.
The only AIO I found to offer complete fax support via a computer. It saves faxes to memory, so when you turn on your computer, you can retrieve it without using up any paper or ink. For HP Officejets, the computer MUST be on while the fax is coming in, which is lame. Canon printers also have limitations on whether they can only send or receive via computer depending on the model. In fact, I'm now cancelling my eFax service, which will save me some dough.
Printing is good for me, I use it for basic stuff anyway. Scanning is great, the ADF scanned a bunch of stuff and made 1 complete PDF file for me.
Cons: If you send a fax via your computer and you want a fax transmission verification, you can only print it out. Brother needs to update this to save the verification to memory to go completely paperless on faxing.
PC FAX is not supported for Macs yet, so I'm tied to my Windoze machine for this feature. (PC FAX is setup for only 1 machine anyway)
Other Thoughts: Some reviews on the net were negative on the print speed, and the quality of the black ink.
I found the speed just fine. The black ink does look bad if you use the "fast" print setting, though "fast normal", "normal", and "fine" were good depending on how nice you want it.
The wireless setup was easy and supported WPA-AES with no problems.
