5 out of 5 eggsGreat Prosumer Camera

Pros: Great camera package at a great price if you need more than a point and shoot but not a full- blown professional model. It takes very good high quality photos and the 2 memory card slots are great for extended sessions.

Cons: If you put a filter on the wide angle lens along with the sun shade you may get parts of the shade in your picture at the widest settings.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for work first (due to budget) and was so impressed I purchased one for home. My wife and I took it on a 4 week camping trip from Michigan to Alaska and back capturing over 3000 amazing pictures.

5 out of 5 eggsE-500

Pros: Excellent "walking around" camera. It is much more convenient than the E-1 for landscape & nature photography. Easy to change lenses.

Cons: Not worth mentioning when you consider the price.

Other Thoughts: The kit lenses aren't bad as far as kit lenses go. For professional grade photos the pro grade lenses are the way to go. Zuico lenses are excellent for any photographer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat entry-level DSLR

Pros: The best thing I can say about this camera is that it's a great traveler. It was a shock how light and balanced the E-500 is after moving from my friend's Nikon D50. The kit lenses are not bad, but investing in a nice macro (Zuiko makes a 35mm f/2 and a 50mm f/2) and wide-angle will be worth the money. It's on the small side, so fitting the camera with a few other lenses is easier than with most DSLRs. It's easy to use, supports both xD and CF cards and the screen is fairly large and bright.

Cons: Small sensor makes for lots of grain at ISO 400 and up, but going B&W makes for a cool film-grain effect. Max ISO 1600. Plastic body, kit 14-45 lens feels a little flimsy, could also use a wider f-stop on it.

Other Thoughts: I've had this kit since September of 2006, and I love it. It's good for hikes if you want something more than a point-'n-shoot but don't want to lug around a larger DSLR. Rather than trade this in for a 30D, I might just get a few more lenses.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: takes great pictures. has great features that my old camera doesnt have. the feature for the scenes is great. we used the one for fireworks on the 4th and pictures came out great. battery is great. bought a extra one and havent had to use it yet and i have taken tons of pictures with the flash and still havent changed batteries.

Cons: the only con that i can think of right now is that i wish the second lens that came with is has a longer zoom like the canon. its good to 150mm. we took pictures with mine and my brothers canon and he could closer to a item we where taking the picture of then i could. also doesnt come with any memory sticks, you have to buy seperatly.

4 out of 5 eggsAn excellent consumer digital SLR

Pros: Takes great quality pictures. The second longer lens is perfect for those outdoor shots. Loads of picture taking options.
You can spend hundreds more on more pro level cameras & lenses, but for the average consumer, this one fits the bill.

Cons: Takes only 4 pictures before pausing to write data to the memory card.

5 out of 5 eggsLoving My Camera

Pros: Best camera I have owned, right out of the the box it takes better pictuers than any "point and shoot" Camera I have owned.
Easy to use and learn the modes on, and compatible with 123 LI batteries for long backpacking trips without a charger (that was the selling point for me)

Cons: None yet although I am a novice photographer.

Other Thoughts: Buy from newegg they have the best price on this great cammera.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Worth It

Pros: Excellent quality; a real value for the money. If you understand the limits of this camera you will be very satisfied. This is not a pro-level camera and it's not a point and shoot. As far as not being a pro level camera this means many settings are menu driven and a smaller body. But top quality images are just as possible with this camera as any other DSLR, pro or otherwise. The E-500 has more advanced features than other DSLR's at a similar price. Build, image, mirror lock up, advanced menus, no noticeable shutter lag and price were the big items for me. Olympus balanced them all pretty well in the E-500.

Cons: My dislikes are similar to many other reviews.
The view finder is smaller than other cameras and took a bit to get used to see the exposure data on the right side of the view finder.
Occasionally my right thumb bumps on of the buttons on the back of the camera.

Other Thoughts: Great starter DSLR with lots of room to grow. The 4/3 rds system has had a luke warm reception, but I've made plenty of 8x10's and a few gallery size prints with great success. After owning several brands of film SLR's, I'm very satisfied and plan on staying with Olympus for my DSLR. BTW, Olympus lenses are excellent too. I am always impressed with the image quality of the humble kit lenses included with the E-500.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for kids' sports

Pros: If you want to capture your kids' sporting events, you'll love it over the point and shoots. Eventually you'll discover this camera provides many extra features. Package value is unbeatable for those looking to upgrade to digital SLR.

Cons: Haven't seen any.

5 out of 5 eggsgood pictures bad in the dark...

Pros: Takes grat pictures, the LCD is so good that I cant and the local printer cant get an equal image, Has a strong build, dual-card slot (as i have a large colection of xD and CF cards),and amazing kit lens for the price (The tele zoom is the best, not only does it get a focal lenght of 80-300mm but it has a 3.5 appature!)

Cons: The low light AF is sad really, only 3 point AF, my nose always smuges the viewfinder (normal for a DSLR BUT I CANT STAND IT!), poor viewfinder compared to my film SLRs, hard to focus MF with the small viewfinder and no writings on the lens.

Other Thoughts: I loved my camera but the flash was broken. Before I boughtthe camera from Newegg i bought it from another reseller and the flash was broken, now I bought it from newegg I am confident it will not eb broken! All in all, i think this camera is one of the best budget DSLR, but look out the new model came out the day i bought it (E510)!
