The Canon Rebel XT Silver Digital Camera was a huge leap in consumer digital photography. For the first time, regular folks could own a digital SLR for less than four figures. The Rebel launched the consumer D-SLR revolution which now has many other camera manufacturers in the mix. This representative of the distinguished Canon line is equipped with a wide range of features and accessories to let you hold onto those most precious moments, most artistic landscapes, or most special portraits.

Equipped with an 8.0 MP CCD sensor, this camera allows you to capture images with utmost sharpness and astounding colors. The DIGIC II Image Processor really aids auto-focusing, accurate white balance and processing time and consumes much less energy than previous versions. This is an ultra-fast camera with an impressive shutter speed that may reach down to 1/4000 second, enabling you to take that flawless speed shot. The 7-point AF system ensures that the images are precise and accurate even while focusing on moving subjects!

The camera is bundled with a 18-55 mm f3.5-5.6 lens, but gives you the wide variety of EF lens compatible with the camera to choose from. Additionally, PictBridge technology allows you to directly print your photographs via a compatible printer. And, speaking of your computer, the Digital Solution Disk includes software for browsing, sorting and find your photos, to manage the years of pictures you’ll be taking with this spectacular camera.

  • newegg 8.0 Megapixel COMS Sensor The EOS Digital Rebel XT features Canon's 8.0 Megapixel CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor with the most-in-class pixels for images of exceptional clarity and tonal range. The APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras for an effective viewing angle of 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. Featuring an on-chip Noise Reduction Circuit with an expanded ISO range, the Digital Rebel XT's sensor offers professional sophistication in a consumer package.
  • newegg DIGIC II Image Processor The EOS Digital Rebel XT's sensor is driven by the DIGIC II Image Processor which is enhanced across the board with improvements in speed and image quality. Information captured by the sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional clarity and resolution. Consuming very little energy, DIGIC II works with the sensor to ensure natural colors, accurate white balance and speedy write times.
  • newegg PictBridge Support The Digital Rebel XT makes photograph printing easier than ever. Simply connect your Digital Rebel XT to any PictBridge-compatible printer, select your image and print settings, and press the Direct Print button to start printing.
  • newegg USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface Connect the Digital Rebel XT to a computer with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection; upload images at speeds up to ten times faster than with the original EOS Digital Rebel.

5 out of 5 eggsGift, Happy

Pros: I got this camera for my girlfriend for Christmas and she loves it. She is not a pro photographer but she is very skilled and knows a lot about taking pictures and cameras. This camera has everything she wants on a camera at a reasonable price.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera!! Lots Of Features!!

Pros: so many features to make your shots superb. more features than i have used so far and i have owned this camera for over 3 months.

Cons: cant really think of anything negative about this camera - other than the packaged lense isn't all that great - consider maybe buying another one soon.

Other Thoughts: you wont be dissapointed in this camera

5 out of 5 eggsFun camera

Pros: Excellent pictures. Good autofocus on the various modes. Lightweight.

Cons: Quirky controls in the full manual mode. Slightly small. Kit lens is soft at 18mm and 55mm. Menu is counterintuitive to 35mm manual photographers.

Other Thoughts: Photographers looking for accuracy should go for just the body and spend more on expensive lenses with IS.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Camera

Pros: For the price, it's fast, high quality and highly versatile. 8.0MP at the best quality is large enough to get high quality prints at least 8x10 in size. With the 400D on the market, these are highly affordable.

Cons: The kit lens is too slow for good indoors shots without the flash.

Other Thoughts: For indoors, consider purchasing a 50mm Cannon 1.8 fixed lens for very little money (under 100).

5 out of 5 eggsIt's all Good!

Pros: Since all my digital experience has been with an Oyl-2100UZ, so this has been a giant step up - SLR, real bust, 8 megapix, and the auto mode is incredible - it just works. The manual settings will take some time to explore. (I'll keep the 2100UZ for its infrared capabilities until I find I can play that way with the Rebel XT).

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Contrary to what they say, the EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 that comes with the kit version isn't all that bad if you recognize its limitations. Be sure to go the extra $70 and get a 50mm f1.8 – now that’s a pairing!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Camera

Pros: After using a friends Canon D20 I had to have one. The Rebel 350 has all the features I used on the D20, and it cost a whole lot less. Great quality for a good price.

Cons: Lens is cheap feeling, but works fine with good picture quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera

Pros: I have shot a couple of thousand shots with this camera and it works great. I bought a Sigma 70-300 F4 zoom lens to help take sports photos and it's a great combination with a monopod. I even have Adobe Photoshop 7.0 but find the pre-packaged software that comes with the camera to be very easy to use.

Cons: The LCD is really lame with the subdued brightness until you select makes it virtually impossible to read in daylight. Canon should have done more homework on this issue.

Other Thoughts: Buy a Delkin LCD hood and eyepiece for $30 to protect the LCD and allow you to have half a chance of reading the LCD screen.

Also, shop for memory here a NEWEGG. I bought a 2 gig card here for $37.

If you shoot in raw mode be prepared to have a large hard drive.

4 out of 5 eggsIt does have filter effects for B/W photograpy

Pros: Uses the EF lenses from my two A2E bodies. Available vertical grip that can house two batteries.

Cons: Proprietary batteries; body's grip is too small to be comfortable for my average hands.

Other Thoughts: Page 66 of the manual under "Setting the Processing Parameters" states: "The same effect as using filters with black-and-white film can be obtained with digital images."

Available filter effects on the Parameters menu are:
N: None
Ye: Yellow
Or: Orange
R: Red
G: Green

The same page also covers Toning Effect. i.e. Sepia; Blue; Purple; and Green to be applied to the B/W image.

You just need to dig a little deeper on the same menu that you used to even get the B/W setting.

5 out of 5 eggsDigital Rebel XT

Pros: Great resolution
Makes 8x10 photos w/o any digital fuzziness

Cons: I wish the camera had some settings to work as if it was taking pictures w/ a red, green, etc. filter for B/W photography. The EOS 30D I have been told has such features.
It is also a little difficult to figure out how to change the fstop, lighting, and other settings simultaneously through the different menus.

Other Thoughts: When I bought this camera, I was wondering if I should get the SLR or one of the high-end point and shoot cameras. I have NO regrets getting this!
I bought the 50-105mm IS lens instead of getting the 18-55mm kit. I really like my lens, but if I were to go back, I may have preferred to just get the kit instead so that I could have this very practical lens. I bought the black camera too, which I think was a great choice because the silver paint doesn't chip off and doesn't get dirty as easily.
This really is an awesome camera, doing more than I had hoped for!

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: GREAT prosumer camera. Tons of pro features. Compatible with EF and EFS lenses so you can upgrade the body later and use the same great canon lenses. And of course, the pictures it produces are STUNNING!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Lens that comes with the kit is very basic and simple. I just bought my first L lens, which I'm very excited about.
