Customer Reviews of the Canon USA PowerShot SD960 IS
Pros: 720p movie mode is great. As a point and shoot it takes great stills as well.
Cons: It's a little bigger than the 750 it replaced, but then again it does more.
Other Thoughts: Hard to go wrong with this. Solid buy.

Pros: Movie mode is impressive! (even if blocky under low light) Good snapshots under the right conditions. Face recognition works real well! Relatively fast response for a small camera.
Cons: TOO MANY BLURRY PHOTOS! The optical image stabilization isn't as good as the camera "thinks" it is. FREQUENTLY, I take a picture and think, "wow, I expected it to need a flash". When I look at the blurry picture I just took, sure enough, it needed a flash.
I can get around this by switching to manual mode and turning on the flash *EVERY* time I turn it on. What? It won't remember my settings?!?!? Grrrrr!
Other Thoughts: This is a pocket point-and-shoot camera for me. I own a Nikon DSLR, and know what I am doing when it comes to using a camera. I wanted a camera to throw in my pocket and snap photos of the kids while running around.
I can usually get it to take pretty good snapshots. Unfortunately, it frustrates my wife and she just refuses to use it. My old 6 megapixel Olympus got more reliable shots.
Just an observation of all 12Megapixel cameras like this: Ridiculous. They are diffraction limited - the optics are much worse than the 12Mpixel sensor. Don't fall for the "more pixels are better" junk.

Pros: Typical Canon, minus the cons below.
Cons: Take forever to snap a photo. Slowest Canon of the five models I've handled over the last 7 years, all in the SD family. I've found that your target needs to be perfectly still to get a clear photo too. The least bit of motion and you'll get blurring. The oldest camera I had I'd take pictures of wakeboarders and get solid shots.
Other Thoughts: Just a "meh" purchase. Boss borrowed the camera this week to play with. He toyed with it much more than I have and couldn't get any settings to make it worthy. It was on his buy list until he got to use it. If you were considering this for your purchase I'd recommend continuing your search.

Rating: 5/5Great little point and shoot
Pros: In good lighting, it takes great quality photos and great video (720p is so worth it).
Cons: However it is a point and shoot. It's not a DSLR or even a "prosumer" camera. In moderate/low light, it suffers (noise).
Other Thoughts: If you need a point and shoot, then this is a strong choice (I recommend it). However don't expect photographic miracles.

Rating: 5/5Great Camera
Pros: Takes beautiful pictures even if you are taken them from a distance. Great zoom options!
Cons: Well on the 4th of July I tried to take pictures of the fire works but it seems to be a second delay, didn't get to capture any of them, otherwise it works well and can hold lots of memory!
Other Thoughts: I'm just glad that I invested in this camera and hope to have for many years. Oh yeah... I just didn't like that it didn't come with a case for the camera ;(

Rating: 5/5Nice camera, great pics
Pros: Auto settings work very well. Turning review mode off can allow you to take multiple pictures quickly, and then review later and find the best. Picture clarity is excellent. Nice design and easy to handle. Default battery charges very quickly in wall socket.
Cons: Finding some settings with the new menu setup definitely takes some getting used to. Night videos or ones in low light can be a little fuzzy, but nothing horrible. Review mode is a little annoying with so much info, but it can be adjusted easily. USB transfer can be slow due to the high picture quality and file sizes. Large LCD can suck some battery life if you review the pictures a lot while still on the camera.
Other Thoughts: My wife and I purchased this camera for our honeymoon pictures. We wanted an upgrade over our older Fujifilm FinePix Z3. Out of the box we absolutely loved it. It takes very high quality stills which can be cropped very easily if you are tech savvy. The size of the images is huge, 4000x3000 pixels in fine mode, which makes for fantastic pictures when you have them sent for print.
The built-in auto features are very nice. I rarely had to adjust the settings manually. The camera auto adjusted to the scenery nearly every time perfectly. The only shots that needed some help were shots in mediocre light where a very bright light was shining in the background and throwing it off.
Overall, we were very happy with its performance. I highly recommend this camera for those still wanting a smaller camera and not quite wanting to spend for SLR. I do recommend an upgrade to a higher memory card. We went with a PNY 16 GB HDSC since we plan on taking videos at some point.
