Good Camera
- Pros: Low price, image stabilization, digital effects (black/white, etc.), 37x optical zoom and 48x digital zoom, lightweight, bright LCD.
- Cons: Manual lens cover, slightly picky with dvd type.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this camera after selling my other dvd camcorder made by Panasonic. I might have been lucky but my refurb unit literally seems brand new, not a single scratch or mark and came with everything a new unit comes with. It works perfectly, and was well worth it for me. This isnt a high end camcorder, mostly suitable for home videos. For the price it was a good buy, although I see the price has already gone up.
Writing to DVD makes no sense
- Pros: NA
- Cons: NA
- Other Thoughts: My 2 cents: I have a different DVD camcorder. They make no sense at all. The recording media holds less than 1 GB, needs finalizing before it can be used, and (on my hitachi camcorder) has errors that lose data. I strongly suggest you consider a camcorder that uses an INTERNAL HARD DISK or a flash memory card instead.
Decent for a Cheap Cam
- Pros: Good picture quality for a SD mini-cam. Zoom is astounding for such a small consumer cam. Very lightweight, I've had to hold this thing for hours before. Instant playback in dvd-drives once finalized. Been reliable, lasted through a good amount of abuse.
- Cons: Editing is a pain. Must rip the contents (causes degradation). We call it "shaky cam" for a reason at work. Discs only take 20min recording on highest record setting. Can hear the disc whir in the audio. Mic isn't the best around (but definitely passable for most uses, just avoid wind).
- Other Thoughts: I did not purchase through Newegg, and I did not get a refurb, so keep that in mind, I am merely reviewing the product itself. If you really want a cheap video camera, this one is not bad. However, if you ever want to do editing, want HD, or are wanting something more than a cheapy, this isn't the camera for you. Definently buy a decent tripod. Originally we started with this and a $30 tripod, which got us started, but we upgraded to a Panasonic P2 pro-sumer and a fluid-head tripod, like night and day. Still, not a bad camera for recording baby's first steps or other such moments. Also, with this being refurbed, it might also not come with the software the original did, and its pretty vital for ripping (and editing).
