This newest version of the Age of Empires, Age of Empires III places you in the age of exploration and conquest— roughly 1500–1850. You're now a European power, and it is your task to explore, colonize, and conquer North and South America. You control the action as you experience a new level of exciting combat with realistic effects. Will you engage in battle with blades, gunpowder, or both? The Home City represents your capital back in Europe and plays a supporting role in your attempt to control the New World. Take advantage of colonial-era elements, perhaps establishing alliances with Native Americans, finding new resources in the Amazon rain forest, and more.
Witness new lighting effects and shadows while immersed in a world that feels bright and sunny, yet which has a softness and depth that is revolutionary to PC games. Play as the British and have a stellar economy, play as the French and easily ally with Native Americans, or play as the Spanish and have more support from your home country in Europe.

Great game!
- Pros: Graphics are great. It's pretty fun watching the buildings get blown apart by cannons (the first 20 times or so). Single player has a pretty good set of campains and the multiplayer rocks. The home city feature is cool and you get to select "cards" that determine your choices in future shipments. "hero" units have a special attack that you can use and regenerate (snipe or special sword attack for example). The naval battles are pretty amazing.
- Cons: No formations that the old games had. No "defend unit" command (if you like to use pikemen or bowmen to protect fragile cannons etc.)
- Other Thoughts: I'm having a blast on the single player campaigns right now, because I get smashed in multiplayer. The campaigns are not exactly historically accurate but they're a lot of fun. You do need a pretty mean system to run this game with all the good stuff turned up to the max. I actually had to turn a couple settings down on my system. amd 64 3400 - gigabyte gk8ns pro - 1 gb corsair xms - geforce 6800 - I prefer to turn a couple graphic settings down to get better performance, but the game still looks far better than any in the series so far.
- Pros: Amazing graphics! water effects are absolutely stunning. The gameplay is as engrossing as previous Age game. Buy it if you're a fan of Age, history, or good solid RTS.
There is also a very good multiplayer community.
- Cons: I had hoped they would have implemented a few things like men on walls or unique forts or tactical formations, but once you get into it, the action makes you forget.

- Pros: Fast-paced gameplay, Home City feature for Skirmishes, good graphics
- Cons: It doesn't seem to have as much content as the previous titles in the series (less civilizations than AoE II and less units than Age of Mythology). Also, the so-called minimum system requirements seem to be on the low side.
- Other Thoughts: I have played this game on two computers: one had well over the system requirements but could still barely run the game on lowest settings (Specs: 2.8 Ghz Celeron D, 1 Gb RAM, 256 Mb Geforce 6200). Beware: A computer that meets the listed requirements may not actually be able to run the game, or only be able to run it on minimum settings.
Dont buy
- Pros: Graphics - shiny but meh
- Cons: Everything
- Other Thoughts: Save yourself lame gameplay and stupid campaigns and get Age of Empires 2 instead, plus you'll save 6 bucks!
Good game
- Pros: Bought it as a give for my father, hes loving it.. I'm thinking about getting one for myself too now.
Buy it.
- Cons: None
