What NewEgg support has to say about this upgrade
- Pros: So far, no serious glitches
- Cons: Took a while to get a confirmation number from the upgrade site, but that's fixed now.
- Other Thoughts: I'm still not sure what I need to send along with my upgrade certificate (with confirmation number written in). Here's what newegg customer service told me:
"YES – ALL customers who purchased during this promotional time will qualify and be honored the promotion. Regardless if a Microsoft rep said otherwise. If they experience an denials, please report to newegg.
"YES – The customer will still qualify even though they didn’t purchase a PC system.
...all purchase promotions will be honored.
"If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page."
There's nothing useful in the FAQ that I could find.
So, we shall see.
Buyer Beware
- Pros: New O/S with the latest features and protections.
- Cons: Memory Hog.
- Other Thoughts: I contacted M/S with the number here and was directed to Vista marketing. I was told that if you purchase OEM versions of Vista (like the coupon is) you will experience a lot of difficulty upgrading your PC and using this O/S copy again. She also said retail copies of Vista should allow you to upgrade a single PC and keep on using it... if not abused.

It's Widows XP Pro SP2
- Pros: I can't say there are too many pros to a Microsoft product but at least it's not Vista. The price is right and a lot better of a deal than retail versions that just get you a pretty box.
It installed and activated fine and even activated a second time without a hitch when I decided to upgrade my boot drive.
- Cons: It's Windows.
- Other Thoughts: I have no intentions of upgrading to Vista so I can't comment on the results of the Vista Business upgrade offer.
It's just windows
- Pros: Good for folks that can't use linux or refuse to use Mac OSX.
- Cons: It's Windows.
- Other Thoughts: I got nothing!!
Vista arrived today!
- Pros: easy networking, simple installation
- Cons: The machine will not shutdown without rebooting. This is now happening with a 3rd motherboard.
- Other Thoughts: Surprise, suprise.... M$ came through. This version came with a free upgrade to Vista business, and it arrived today ( 3 months later )!
