Good backup software but...
- Pros: I'm using the last stable "8" version which is 8.0.937 so I can't speak about version 9. Instead, I'll speak about Acronis True Image in general. I use Acronis TI to backup the boot drives of my three XP Pro computers to an external USB drive. In this capacity, Acronis TI has NEVER FAILED to properly restore a boot drive from a backup, and I have performed 20+ such restorations over the years. Indeed, I don't use Windows "System Restore" (I have it turned off). Instead, I make frequent boot drive backups.
- Cons: Unless things have changed, you would do well to visit the Acronis online support forum before using this software. You will find a lot of useful information by reading through the problems others might be having. In my experience, the Acronis manual and help file simply did not cover all necessary ground, hence my suggestion to visit their online forum. For example, nowhere in their manual or help file did it say you must backup ALL PARTITIONS of the boot drive if you expect to boot from your restoration. I got that information instead from their online forum. Pity the poor slob who faithfully makes backups of only his boot partition thinking he will be able to restore the partition and boot from it.
- Other Thoughts: Some reviewers here have called this product "junk". I disagree. As noted earlier, Acronis TI has never failed me and I rely on it. But then too,
1) I don't overclock (except for margin tests) 2) I run Memtest86 on all my systems and accept NO errors, and, 3) I only upgrade to a new Acronis TI version after the dust has settled, as it were, and it is clear that the new version is a stable version.
Hasselware
- Pros: User Interface
- Cons: Customer Interface
- Other Thoughts: Love the software. Hate the user experience.
Installed the trial version, reboot required. Liked the trial version so bought a copy. No way to enter the serial code in the trial version to upgrade to full version. Uninstalled the trial version, reboot required. Install the full version, reboot again. Found out the full version is out of date. Went to the support site. No downloadable version without registering. So registered, waited for an email to validate registration. Logged into the acronis site. Must register your product's serial code before obtaining an update. But wait, their website has a bug that won't let you register the product. Tried to email support to get my copy registered. Can't email them because you need to register your product before getting support, which is why I'm trying to email them. Shockingly bad user experience.
This is the only consumer software company that demands user and product registration before providing bug fixes. They provide no way to up

No Ghost here
- Pros: It works "Great" simple to use. Similar to the old days of using Power Quest image software.
- Cons: None yet.
- Other Thoughts: Way cheaper then using ghost.
Excellent
- Pros: Easy to use. Ive reloaded many images with this without a hitch. Great price.
- Cons: The home version is somewhat gimped compared to business offerings (duh!)
- Other Thoughts: Great value. Much easier to use than comparative products.
Forced registration
- Pros: It does work- If you back up to CD's. Didn't back up to DVD's until I updated through the website. (Website won't allow updates until REGISTER with serial number and marketing information with E-Mail - then they send the update link.) - NEWEGG itself gets 5 eggs of course. Delivered in 2 days. Piece of cake.
- Cons: FORCED REGISTRATION - I already paid for the product. - I don't appreciate this collection of marketing and E-Mail. (Even Windows XP's registration doesn't collect this stuff.) And believe me - The people that HAVE to get this info are the people that SELL it. - they wouldn't NEED it otherwise, regardless of what they tell their employees to tell you..
- Other Thoughts: Was look on auction sites for an old copy of 'Drive Image 7', from before they sold the company. Found it (NEW), 2 days after i ordered this. - Love It. - Drive Image went on my computer - acronis went on the sold unit.
