Fusion 2 is a serious upgrade to Boot Camp for users who need to run Windows Applications on their Macs. Run Windows apps side by side with your Mac apps, without having to reboot! Fusion 2 also lets you use Windows-only peripherals like GPS units, PDA's, and certain mobile phones on your Mac, no hassles, no joke!
Using the VMWare Converter utility, you can import your entire PC to your Mac as a virtual PC. Fusion takes backup "snapshots" of your Windows installation, and continues to protect your system with AutoProtect. If ever a problem should arise, you can simply roll back to a date before the problem took place.
The integration between virtual PC and Mac is seamless; launch your Windows apps right from your Mac's dock; run up to 8 Windows applications at once. Your Windows 3D-graphical applications will run flawlessly, thanks to Fusion's DirectX 9.0 support. If you've got critical Windows applications and need to run them on your Mac, Fusion 2 is the easiest and most trouble-free solution on the market!

Does everything you'd expect and more!
- Pros: Super simple to install! Works flawlessly on my new MacBook pro 15" using 2.4 C2D, 4 GB DDR3, and 320GB 7200rpm HDD. It is seamless! Everything down to the networking, print sharing, etc. The new gestures on the MBP touch pad work in XP, or anything else that I was using! Solid product!
- Cons: See in other thoughts, wait on activating windows. Besides that none, I guess it could be free and i'd be happier. :)
- Other Thoughts: If you're going to dual boot with XP, I suggest running boot camp first, installing all the drivers from the Mac OSX disk, then running VMware Fusion 2. VMW Fusion drivers are good, but not as good as the Mac OSx drivers. Then us your boot camp partition as the virtual machine.
Also, DONT ACTIVATE WINDOWS XP when you setup boot camp! Just wait until after you install fusion "tool" otherwise you have to reactivate with microsoft. Minor thing, but still will save you some hassle.
MacBook Pro
- Pros: First Mac (used pc's since the 80's)
When getting ready to install I was expecting a nightmare. WRONG! The program is amazing, easy to install, no hitches. If you have Windows programs that you have to use, you need this program.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: The program works flawlessly. The install is a no-brainer. If your thinking of getting Parallels, do yourself a favor and read the reviews first, then get VMware.

Works.
- Pros: I can run Windows 7 (64 bit), XP SP2, Ubuntu Linux, and FreeDOS on my mac. They all run great and VMWare updates the program reguarly to keep on top of issues.
- Cons: Can't really run any games.
Caution Vista 64 Users!!
- Pros: Runs Window in OS X as advertised.
- Cons: The "VMware Tools" utility, required to run the printers, sound card, sync Windows with OS X, etc, will cause the Vista 64 print spooler to cease functioning when Vista 64 is booted natively in Boot Camp. The print spooler cannot be manually restarted until VMware Tools is uninstalled. Although afterwards the print spooler can be started, USB printers are no longer "seen" by the "add printer" wizard. Only a clean reinstallation of Vista 64 remedied the situation.
Response from VMware support: "Unfortunately VMware does not provide phone support for Fusion". The only solution that they offer is to not install Tools. However, they do not recommend doing this, and in doing so you lose sound card functionality; also, the protracted effects of running Fusion without Tools are uncertain (but I've not yet noticed any additional issues). Completely exorcizing Tools is involved, requiring a couple of sudo mv commands through the terminal utility--just using uninstall won't cut it.
- Other Thoughts: In all, I'm no longer certain that Fusion has any real use. Paragon's NTFS utility allows the OS X disk utility to format ANY disk, internal or external, as either MAC OS extended or NTFS. Paragon's Camp Tune allows Windows files to be read from OS X. Finally, MacDrive 8 from MediaFour allows all Mac files to be seen directly from Vista 64. Between these programs all files are accessible from either OS--Time Machine will back up both fomats, and Vista can restore directly from Time Machine.
Oh, and starting Vista in Fusion takes almost a minute longer than just rebooting into Windows!
Finally Bought VM after a 1 Year Debate
- Pros: Installation couldn't have been smoother. It's everything I had read about and more!! Running XP Home SP3, no problems. The fact of running 2 OS's concurrently, awesome! The best thing since sliced bread.
- Cons: None to date.
XP Cons ------------- * XP Home SP3 on a Mac (but I had o do it) * Put more money in Bill Gate's pocket
- Other Thoughts: Mac OS X 10.5.6
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB 667 MHz SDRAM and Xp Home SP3
It was a toss up between Bootcamp, Parralells, and VM Fusion. I long debated which would get my Mac's heart. Handsdown it was VM Fusion.
