Great Paper Weights
Reviewed By: on 3/17/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I already owned three WNDR3300s that I paid full price for a year ago and I absolutely LOVE them! When I saw the opportunity to buy 3 more for a very low refurbished price, it seemed too good to be true! How could I refuse? Nice new covers. Oooh flashing blue lights...
Cons: Only one of the three I just purchased are accessible for configuration. Yes, the default username and password is "admin" and "password", and yes, if that doesn't work, you are supposed to be able to press the reset button to reboot back to factory defaults. Unfortunately two of the three had some *other* password factory configured, so I cannot access them to upgrade firmware or configure them in any manner whatsoever.
The devices ship without any serial numbers. When you call tech support as I did, they will tell you that they do not support devices without serial numbers, so you are completely on you own with these pieces of junk.
Other Thoughts: You know what they say about something that's too good to be true? Ever heard the saying, "You get what you pay for"? Consider this to be a complete gamble before you buy. If you have money to waste, then this is the product for you.

Go DD-WRT
Reviewed By: DeadlyRed on 3/9/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Pretty solid feeling, easily upgraded to DD-WRT, that includes more features than I could ever use. Mine came with a power supply so that's a plus, setup on it took maybe 20 minutes to get everything locked down.
Oh and DD-WRT shuts off those terrifying blue lights on the top.
Cons: Though it's DD-WRT's fault and not Netgear's, the router won't run the N radio at 5Ghz. Kind of a bummer. Plus the range isn't the greatest for either radio even with the output increased, but like I said, this is DD-WRT's doing. Plus the router runs a little hot even before increasing the output on the radios.
Other Thoughts: For $30 it was a great purchase. I hope it doesn't explode on me.
