The Linksys RVL200 is built with small business in mind, with the latest security and access features to make your office run smoothly. With four 10/100Mbps Ethernet connectors, the RVL200 can connect up to four PCs directly or be expanded by connecting additional switches, so that as your business grows, your connectivity can grow to keep up. It also includes a sophisticated and powerful VPN (Virtual Private Network) engine, so remote users can connect securely via the Internet's Secure Socket Protocol to your office network. Two offices equipped with RVL200s (or any other Linksys VPN router) can even VPN to each other, creating a "branch-to-branch" distributed network.
The RVL200 is also extremely secure, designed from the ground up to protect your network from hackers and other threats—threats which can compromise your data, interfere with your applications, or even shut your network down entirely. Linksys' proven SPI Firewall technology, access control filters, and encryption give you unparalleled control over who gets into your network . . . and who doesn't!
The RSV4000's browser-based setup interface makes it very easy to install and configure. All of the router's features and functions are simple to access, configure, edit—and, most of all, protect from unwanted access! The Linksys RVL200—flexible and secure remote connectivity for growing businesses.

Irritating
- Pros: Meh.
- Cons: After spending 2 weeks on the phone with Linksys I managed to get to a "level 3 tech". Must be stronger than a level 2 wizard or something. I was told that this SSL VPN product was not compatible with Vista Ultimate 64 and he was not sure when it would be. The fact that they haven't updated the firmware in a year worries me. I think it was a nice way of telling me to get lost. 6 phone calls later this thing is of little use to me. What happend to linksys?
- Other Thoughts: When I initially set this thing up it took forever for it to grab the IP from my ISP and then it would constantly drop. After a while it mysteriously disapeared. Possibly when I upgraded the firmware.
Mac users beware
- Pros: Easy to setup. Capable interface and performance.
- Cons: Purchased this specifically for SSL VPN and it's stated support of OS X. Supports Tiger but not Leopard. The "latest" firmware is over a year old and no Leopard support. Client fails with a Java error and no response/support from Linksys.

Great with XP and 32-bit Vista, SSL VPN unusable with Vista and 7 x64
- Pros: Comprehensive web interface, staightforward setup, documentation is comprehensive (to a point...)
- Cons: Virtual Passage ActiveX client for SSL VPN works well with XP/Vista (32-bit) and IE7, but any x64 OS will be completely unable to connect. I have tried every scenario (including preinstall of Microsoft C++ 2005 Runtime x64, multiple browsers, *cannot roll-back to IE7 under Windows 7), but the SSL VPN Virtual Passage client, which is ActiveX, will not install.
(I believe ActiveX is no longer supported with x64, and since the SSL VPN client is an ActiveX control...) This is definitely something that should be clearly defined in product specs. Specs state support for Vista but neglect to mention they do NOT support x64 versions, only 32-bit. The primary client I need to connect, of course, is running 64-bit Vista, so the device is useless to me. CISCO/Linksys support has been 'vague' at best. This shortcoming is significant enough, that it might even rate as false advertising.
- Other Thoughts: The plastic feet provided to stand device up, are constantly falling off. The chassis just 'rests' on the feet, but do not clip on. Normally this would be a minor nuisance, but add to it the frustration of being unable to get have the SSL VPN Router allow a simple Vista client to connect using SSL VPN, and the device tipping over every 10 seconds starts to really get... bothersome.
Security Vulnerability
- Pros: Great SSL VPN router (if you could use it). Set up easy, works great.
- Cons: Can't use. Has a cross-site scripting error in the firmware, that creates a security vulnerability. My PCI-DSS (credit card security) monitoring company found the hole. I had to remove the router to pass testing and avoid fines from the credit card companies. Cisco provided a beta firmware that did nothing to fix the problem.
- Other Thoughts: Don't buy it if you process credit cards or worry about security.
Bad SSL support
- Pros: Fairly easy to set up.
- Cons: We wanted this for remote access with PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliancy but it only supports SSLv2, which fails the scan tests. PCI compliancy requires SSLv3. I would avoid buying this until SSLv3 is supported, unless you will not be using the SSL remote access feature.
- Other Thoughts: Need to upgrade the firmware to at least version 1.1.10 to work with Windows Vista 64-bit remote access.

Highlights
 |
SSL/IPSec VPN Router The RVL200 features a Virtual Private Network (VPN) security engine that creates encrypted "SSL tunnels" through the Internet. With the SSL VPN tunnels, remote users can easily and securely connect to the office network through a typical wired or wireless broadband connection from at home or on the road. When used with the RV016 or other Linksys VPN routers, "IPSec branch-to-branch" connections can be established, allowing users in a remote office to connect to the corporate network.
|
 |
10/100Mbps Network Connection The RVL200 features a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch to connect four PCs directly, or additional switches.
