to whoever mentioned 133MB/sec max speed
- Pros: great connection and range
- Cons: Bad drivers on CD. download the new ones.
- Other Thoughts: To whoever mentioned 133MB/sec max on PCI card slot, you are right. But, 300mbps is slower than 133MB/sec. the 133MB/sec is in megabytes, whereas the 300mbps is in megabits. 8 megabits is equivalent to 1 megabyte, so when you divide 300mbps by 8 thats how fast it is in MB/sec.
MB/sec = megaBYTES per second mbps = megaBITS per second
This driver makes it work
- Pros: It took me sometime to figure it all out, but it works like this:
Get this driver: http://www-uk.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Download_C2&childpagename=UK%2FLayout&cid=1129319258516&packedargs=sku%3D1144912118458&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper Make sure the card is not found in the hardware list. When you get prompted for new hardware found, choose not to search driver and browse to the driver you downloaded. Works like a charm.
- Cons: None anymore
- Other Thoughts: D-Link should provide their own working drivers, but apparently you get what you pay for, so did I.

64-bit Vista support... kinda.
- Pros: Once I had the correct drivers, installing it and getting it running was a snap. Good, strong connections with little packet loss, even through walls.
- Cons: The included driver disc does not contain drivers for 64-bit Windows of any flavor, and should not be run. From what I've gathered on various forums, the drivers included on the CD are just bad in general, and any user should download drivers from the Web. I consider this a con for any networking product, as how am I supposed to get on the Web to download a driver if my network interface won't work due to no driver?
- Other Thoughts: Starting at 5 eggs because it works great with Vista x64, which many WiFi cards still don't do (my previous one caused freeze-ups and bluescreens constantly). Minus one egg for having to download drivers and sneakernet them with a USB flash drive to get the thing to work.
Can't take the heat
- Pros: Excellent signal strength, Worked great using draft-n wireless, until...
- Cons: The unit went kaput after a couple of months. Most likely user error, because this thing was taking a considerable amount of heat in my case and I suspect that it simply got cooked. I had to install it RIGHT next to my GPU, literally only a few millimeters of clearance. I do a fair amount of gaming, so the GPU gets hot, and airflow around the adapter was a problem.
Just stopped working one day after a good round of the Sims 3.
Consider your case layout before buying... unlike me. Not sure if other adapters are better, but this thing sure can't take the heat!
- Other Thoughts: Not going to bother with an RMA. I ordered a wireless USB dongle yesterday. And some better case fans to improve cooling. From Newegg of course.
Hackintosh compatible
- Pros: Detects as an airport extreme with OSX Leopard.
- Cons: No low profile models.
- Other Thoughts: works flawlessly with Leopard.
