Setting up a home office? Well, while it's normally difficult to get worked up about network switches, this one is definitely worth getting excited about.
It's got 8 RJ-45 ports and is roughly the size of your palm! This switch is strictly plug and play, requiring little or no setup to operate. It operates as a 10/20/100/200 Mbps switch, and can automatically sense if you are using straight-through or cross-over cables and adapt accordingly. And it costs less than some mice!
So, are you starting to get excited yet? Then check out this switch and get your network up and running!

Provides what you expect for the price
- Pros: Work as they should, haven't had any problems with several of these. Auto MDI/MDIX is convenient. Small size, especially for 8 ports.
- Cons: I hate to see the marketing people using "10/20/100/200" as the capable speeds. It breeds mass misunderstanding of how networking really works and what people should expect out of their equipment.
100 Mbps full duplex is NOT 200 Mbps, no matter what some network vendors' marketing departments want you to believe. If you send in both directions between the same two PC's at wire speed you'll have near 200 Mbps, but that's extremely uncommon in any real world network usage, and is just 100 Mb full duplex. No network professional worth anything refers to 100 Mb full duplex as "200 Mb".
In summary - don't expect to get > 100 Mb throughput from one host to another on this switch, it's not going to happen.
- Other Thoughts: Can't expect more for this price range. Though I would prefer to never use these cheap unmanaged switches, sometimes a managed switch just isn't an option.
Great Switch
- Pros: Great switch overall. I was skeptical of buying from an offbrand that I had never heard of, but trusted NewEgg's selection of products. I picked up two of these to network all my older basement systems. Worked like a charm right out of the box!
- Cons: None to speak of!
- Other Thoughts: Not that it matters to me, and it probably won't matter to you if you buy the switch, but I wanted to make the statement. The switch does emit a barely-audible hissing sound when it is plugged in. I have two of them, and they both exhibit the same sound. If yours does this, there is nothing wrong with it. Mine works fine regardless!

Very Nice
- Pros: Worked as advertised right out of the box, small size allows you to put it most anywhere, activity lights are nice, 1 port in and 7 out for a total of 8 is plenty for my needs.
- Cons: Short 4ft AC power adaptor cord will limit your placement of this unit. Adding some weight or attaching this unit to a surface will be necessary as it is lighter then the cat 5 cables.
- Other Thoughts: This unit was bought for a future project and only tested once so this is not much of a test. Most people will have an inexpensive indoor extension cord and this ac adopter is only 2 pronged and can be plugged in either direction. Bottom of this unit has 2 screw slots for mounting. Even if you don't want to put holes in your surface it can be mounted on a loose piece of plywood (or etc.) for the added weight.
Works Well
- Pros: I have needed extra ports added to my home network for months. I was about to buy the Rosewill 5 port switch, but after i noticed this with free shipping. This was cheaper so I went with this. I dont have enough computers to completely fill up the switch but it is doing its job.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I mainly bought this to add more ports but when i bought it i hooked my second Xbox 360 up to this switch. With one xbox 360 hooked up the the router and the second 360 hooked up through the switch, me and my brother are now able to play with both of our Nat's open (not before with both 360's on the router)
Runing for 4 months without a sigle problem.
- Pros: Dependable, fast, small, does not require setup, inexpensive
- Cons: None.

Highlights
 |
Half/full-duplex Compatible With full-duplex support, the Rosewill RC-406 works at a maximum 200Mbps on each 8 RJ45 port (doubling the speed of normal half-duplex devices), and is also compatible with half-duplex mode. On top of that, each RJ45 supports Auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/ MDI-X, which facilitate installation and troubleshooting respectively.
|
 |
Network Optimization The RC-406 supports Full Wire Speed Store-and-Forward Technology which instantly eliminates bad packets. Broadcast Storm Filter, Runt and CRC Filtering eliminate erroneous packets to optimize network bandwidth.
