OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Gamers value their time online. A lot. Anything which can enhance game time, improve frame rate or targeting performance is a huge asset. The Killer NIC is a necessary development in computer gaming, adding almost an additional system on a card, rather than a traditional Network Interface Card. Powered by Lag and Latency Reduction (LLR™) Technology, Killer gives you superior speed and performance, with more Frames Per Second and lower Pings when they matter most: during intense online gaming action. Killer NIC does this by several innovative methods.

Network packets from your game are prioritized and delivered before other network activity. UltimatePing Technology maximizes the speed of your PC because the 400MHz Network Processor Unit (NPU) delivers data to games faster, reducing your Ping. If some opponents complain that your ping is “too low,” then PingThrottle allows you to adjust it a little higher – then dial it back down to go in for the kill. MaxFPS technology offloads network processing to Killer, allowing your CPU to prioritize what you need it to: your game. The sooner you get one, the sooner you’ll be smoking the competition!

Thoughts on my KillerNIC

white Reviewed By: Tressym69 on 7/27/2007

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: So now, to answer the burning question… is the card worth the money?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: It does just what it says it is going to do. I play World of Warcraft and KillerNIC dropped my ping by 20-30ish ms and has boosted my FPS in situations where there is LOTS of action going on the screen and my FPS is dropping like flies. It reduces times where you would normally see lag in the game making for a smoother experience over all. Now I’ve got a higher end gaming system and I did not see worlds of difference in my games… could I live without this card, you bet. Am I having a better gaming experience so far? Yeah… and that’s what this card is aiming for. I am looking forward to doing some more graphic’s intense stuff later where there is going to be even more crazy stuff going on to really put this thing to the test and I’ll keep ya posted.
Cons: My first card was DOA & while it would load & the OS saw that it was there, something was hosed & it would not get an IP address (it took six hours of solo troubleshooting to confirm it was hosed, I was getting really annoyed).
Called Bigfoot & they heard me out, did a basic troubleshoot, & suggested I put in a ticket on their website (to some not the best way to handle tech support but to me this is the best way to describe every little thing that I tried to do to troubleshoot the card).
Bigfoot sent me an email thanking me for attempting to troubleshoot with them & that they believe the card is dead (well duh); setup next day RMA cross ship & wait.
Next day- no replacement card… *gurr* oh well I did get my credit card info to them at the last minute to have them cross-ship me another card.
Day two of waiting- Replacement card arrives, uninstall bad card, & drop in new card… lights up to start… that’s a good sign; installed drivers and everything works. That’s MORE LIKE IT!
Other Thoughts: Well the NIC is shiny right out of the box with a sweet “K” shaped aluminum nickel-plated heat sink… put it in though and it kind of disappears in-between my other cards so you can’t see it, oh well. . Lights on the card flash like a warning beacon on a cell tower at night… not to annoying, has a cool effect to it. Tentative final impressions:
Tech support is there to work stuff out, I’m happy with the support, second card working as advertised, if you have the money to blow and you would call yourself a hardcore gamer that needs that little extra edge or your looking for a better online gaming experience this card is what your looking for.

Great Card

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Lowers ping, takes the newwork load off cpu, does exactly what is advertised. Especially good for when I run server in F.E.A.R. Now gamers on my server do not complain about ping. The load on my cpu (a amd fx-55) was reduced drasticaly, especially with several players onboard. This card has it's own processor that handles the load, and much better. The red flashing lights are kind-of neat to look at.
Cons: My card installing skills are not the best. Had to re-seat it three times. Important--USE DRIVERS OFF THE WEBSITE,--not the cd. I also shut off my lan - lines, to boost performance a little. Set your software to "Game" mode. Some of my gaming friends can 'feel' the difference, I can not, except when in server mode, with up to 16 players network traffic.
Other Thoughts: The negative reviews are misleading I think. Many do not know what this card actually does, and should not be writing reviews. It will not improve a slow line, as it only increases the processing of the information it is sent. Just bough this for a friend of mine, who runs a server that I play on alot.

Didnt work for me

white Reviewed By: Pagemaster on 8/22/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: less than 1 day
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It had a cool shiny silver K on the front & fancy red lights
Cons: First thing it had very unstable drivers that made the operating system sluggish and then not what to boot up when you restarted and then windows wanted to go in to restore point.Half the functions icons would not open and some would do a pop up error. Never for the life of me got it on the internet I dont think it worked to begin with but the red lights worked for awhile then stopped blinking altoghter messed with it all night and gave up out of frustration that nothing worked on it and I waited all week for it and was so excited to get it to find nothing about it worked that was a real downer.
Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research on this card and saw that theres was a lot problems with software and hardware thinking I could beat those odds with my understanding of hardware & software I thought could make it work but I got no life out of it & there was a lot of bugs in the software even with the update off the website.Im not one to give up easy when it comes to computers sometimes I will spend days on a computer project if I think its going to work but it took no fool to see that there was something wrong with the killer nic card.On a final note I suspect with this first generation of high end nic card that killer technology makes a better one next time with some user friendly software and I will be there to test it.

Pros: Looks cool
Cons: 99% or your latency to an internet server is outside of the PC you are using. If this thing does improve latency, then it can only be less then 1 ms.
Other Thoughts: I have a degree in networking, several Cisco and Microsoft certs, and work as a Network Analyst. I know networking and this card is a waste of money.

Pros: not only does this card look nice(even though you really can't see it), it also does perform as they advertise. and to those that say it wont have any effect on high end gaming systems. well i have an i7 920 and 2x295gtx's with 12gigs of 2000mhz ram and a whole lot of other gamer goodies, and this still got my ping from 180-200 to 130-150 in CoD4. it wasn't my setup because with obnoxious amounts of lag i was still seeing 100fps (displayed by fraps). it did not increase my frame rate which i never expected in the first place, but it does what they say. and i even checked out the claim that it can keep you gaming while downloading, well i saw the same results as above with CoD4 while downloading a file at a steady 650kbps. so again, works as advertised. plus it let's me shut off that darn windows firewall. so all in all i'm happy with my purchase
Cons: none really.
Other Thoughts: oh and i almost forgot i'm running this setup on windows 7 beta with no issues the vista drivers installed and work flawlessly.
