5 out of 5 eggsGood deal

Pros: Great price. Vista Home Premium. Very slick laptop and the finger pad is flat with the case of the laptop. No dust or junk to get caught up in the cracks. Very nice feeling keybaord.

Cons: The only real con is the amount of USB ports. I am also not a fan of the video out port the way it is recessed. Shouldn't be a problem since this is for a surfing the net and low tech stuff for my parents.

Other Thoughts: I immediately upgraded the RAM to 4GB and sold the 2GB that came with it online.

1 out of 5 eggsLabtop BAD

Pros: Computer was fast in loading, webpages load fast

Cons: A problem occurred within the first week of usage, and I am now seeking a solution. There are constant errors. Sometimes computer crashes and physical memory needs dumping. Load it back up and there are missing/deleted files. Laptop create constant Web browsers errors. Overall, kinda annoying laptop to deal with. THEN laptop crashed completely. Details below:

Hello, my toshiba laptop that I recently purchased within the last week has malfunctioned. It does not load. States "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer." "File: /boot/BCD , Status: OxcOOOOOOf , Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data." I checked inside the package and no reboot disc was found.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Older Parents' Use

Pros: Price (380) and feature set pretty much defines a good 'budget laptop'.

Cons: Nothing really given its intended and current use. Be nice to have a set of recovery disks but at this price I won't complain about having to make them.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace the 10 year old Mac iBook that my parents were using. They check email, do a little web surfing and personal finance, and that's pretty much it. They would have kept the Mac if it hadn't reached its OS upgrade limit.

I left Vista on it and didn't bother to remove any of the bloatware. For their limited needs it performs well and they are quite happy with it. I probably won't bother upgrading it to 7.

5 out of 5 eggsOK, I've read through the reviews ....

Pros: And some of them just re-emphasized what I already knew. Some people are iddiots. Plain and simple. This is your basic budget laptop. The Satillites have prvoen to be a decent value. I feel for the few who have a dead HD or a bad LCD, but COME ON PEOPLE, taking eggs away b/c you wanted XP? DONT BUY IT!! Or b/c Office is a trial?? Hello Office is about half the cost of the laptop for petes sake! Griping about the software bloat? Name me one laptop maker who doen't stick bloatware on nowadays? Take it off for petes sake? I lvoe this one, "I am taking eggs away b/c it had only 2 gigs of ram and not 4." Please, are you for real? It's called spending the money buddy!!! LOL. You get what you pay for!!!

Cons: I am just continually amazed how customers bring down the ratings of perfectly good products with such inane complaints. It really makes me wish we had a real zombie fest someday!

Other Thoughts: This laptop? I took out the bloatware, popped in another 2 gigs of memory, and whoooooooola, butter! People amaze me still.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal Great price

Pros: Intel Dual Core
2 gb ram
decent sized hdd
dvd burner
Good solid keyboard

Cons: Intel graphics are not really for modern gaming tho some games run on it. CSS runs fine on it.
The Wifi card acts up every once and a while.
No webcam but thats a cheap fix with a external logitech etc.

Other Thoughts: A cheap upgrade of the memory to 4 gb and an install of the windows 7 rc and this laptop soars! Not really for gaming but for everything else its a great laptop. Im a college student and its great for my student work. Overall, I got this laptop when it was 399 and it was a great deal! At its current price, I don't know if I would buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: After making sure it ran correctly, I wiped Windoze off and installed Debian Squeeze. I use this system for text editing, surfing, some limited Octave-based computing, and TeX-ing material for lectures. No problems with the installation, although I was forced to use Squeeze as I couldn't get the wireless to work in Lenny. The hard disk is small for Windoze, but huge for Linux. Responsive (although I disabled the touch pad b/c I kept bumping into it) action, crisp display, doesn't get too hot. Great deal, IMO.

Cons: I find the sound in Firefox (i.e., Flash media) too quite. This is a Linux/Flash issue b/c directly playing the same media (once downloaded) in VLC is better. The technical level of the system documentation is, er, limited, to put it kindly. I also think the variety of options in the BIOS is rather more restricted than other systems I've worked with. Screen viewing angle is pretty good with a high-contrast display (i.e., text on white bkgnd), but rather limited for lower-contrast material (specially, watching "Eureka" on Hulu).

Other Thoughts: All in all, makes a very nice Linux laptop. I wish the screen resolution were a bit higher (seems to be limited to 1280 x 800), the sound a bit louder, and the amount of technical information available higher. But at least after a month, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the bucks - did two of them

Pros: well - Newegg put them down $100 on one of their e-mail specials - bought one for my brother-in-law - was so good for the money, I thought - hey if they put it back down, I''l buy one. So then they put it on shell shocker e-mail special, for $120 off - it's a no -brainer.

Works fine - faster than I thought it would be.

All in all, great for the money.

Reasonably light, nice screen

Cons: Well, it's not 64 bit.

I didn't like the fact that the keys are slightly larger than my regular keyboard. Doesn't have the same feel because of this.

If you're used to larger keys, not an issue. Hell, one of my employees scarfed it up grinning, and loves it - so it's not even an issue to me.

Other Thoughts: Nothings perfect.

But when you can get this much for so little money - it's relatively great.

If I had paid regular price I would have rated it at a 4 - but at the price it was definitely a 5

4 out of 5 eggsHard to Beat!!

Pros: Somewhat elegant appearance. Price!!!(379.99) 2 g's ram.
Smooth running. Most people would not need more features.
Ability to make recovery discs. Universal card reader.
Wi-Fi shut off switch to save battery power.

Cons: Shiny finish, which was mentioned above is a smudge and scratch magnet. Recovery discs take about 1 1/2 hrs requiring 3 dvd's. No webcam, but at this price, that's OK. Never use them anyway.

Other Thoughts: Would definitely buy another if the price were like the one I lucked into. Four and a half eggs, because nothing is perfect, but this one comes close.

5 out of 5 eggsYes, it's heavy, but...

Pros: Really beautiful laptop for the price, and runs Vista quite well. Although some people complained about preinstalled software, I didn't think it was any more than on most computers these days and it didn't take long to uninstall.

Cons: It is heavy, as some others have mentioned, and was a chore to drag around the airport without wheels.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again. Very pleased.
