5 out of 5 eggsStill Going Strong

Pros: I have had this computer for over 3 years now using it heavily at work. I work in the oilfield as an mwd hand and this has been the main work horse for all of the job data for the past 3 years. You could say it has been rode hard and put away wet! I have upgraded the internal hd to a samsung 256 pro and upgraded the ram with Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1333 this has been an excellent computer.

Cons: Keyboard touches the screen when lid is closed, screen has some scratches from it over the years. If I bought another one I would make sure to get a keyboard cover for transport. Battery life sucks, speakers really aren't that great for being harmon kardon

5 out of 5 eggsEPIC LAPTOP

Pros: I've owned this laptop since december of 2010 and it has been a breeze to operate and a pleasure to play! The graphics are what you would expect from a desktop and so is the processor. The bluray is a nice feature as well for the laptop. The ram is nice and can be upgraded to 1333mhz and the laptop also comes with dual hard drive bays!!! Aside from all of the technical features the laptop games like a pro and plays everything up to the latest battlefield 3. This is the third benchmarked game on the list and the laptop plays it at low to medium settings.

Cons: Nothing really other than the bulkyness and the overall weight. Can't take an egg off for that as the screen wouldn't be as big if it was smaller!

Other Thoughts: Although the graphics built into it are very nice and good for gaming im considering a gtx 460m used to upgrade to, just for better gaming performance.

4 out of 5 eggsQosmio - For 'Angry Owner'

Pros: Features

Cons: Assembly line built, like any other.

Other Thoughts: I too owned a Qosmio, and am a system builder - I've had the same issue as 'Angry Owner.' For those of you with strange behavior and a whining sound when you plug your psu pack in: More than likely the coil on the tank circuit or the voltage regulator is defective/damaged inside the power supply. Have a dealer try another Toshiba pack for your unit. The issue should cease. If not, have them look into a motherboard problem.

5 out of 5 eggsAn almost perfect computer

Pros: This computer is a speed demon with an intel i7 processor and 4gb of ram. Windows Experience index gives this laptop above a 6.0 in everything except for the hard drive which still had a 5.9 and I just recently ordered an ssd that will make this thing really fly. The average boot time is around 30 seconds which is still good for a hard drive with 7200 rpm and 500gb of space (465.65 in actuality).

Cons: There are none other than the speaker being a bit muffled and there is no fix for that and most likely wont ever be, however with a small amount of adjusting the speakers it sounds almost perfect (almost because you lose the majority of the bass). And for those of you wondering, the way to fix this is to go to the speaker icon, right click on it, open playback devices, the right click speakers and click properties. Then go to enhancements and disable all enhancements.(unless you want to try to adjust the bass to mix perfectly with the actual music which I ultimately failed at)

Other Thoughts: So this is an awesome product and in the long run it out-performs almost any other computer with the exception of self built machines that are slightly better. There is no way to improve the sound without physically upgrading them. And as I said before im putting an ssd in here, and since theres an extra hard drive bay I can have one more hard drive which is my 500gb 7200 rpm for data storage. If youre wondering what an ssd is then check out the youtube videos. SSDs will take more vibration, load windows and files faster, and is composed completely of the same thing is RAM. Only one downside to them and that is data storage space which at the moment is very low compared to conventional hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bang for the Buck

Pros: * Great bang of features for the buck
* Definitely a powerhouse with tons of features
* Excellent screen - 1920 X 1080 is a must have
* Clarksfield i7-740QM is a great processor for the price and will serve you for the next 3 years, at least.
* The next gen of intel Sandy Bridge architetcure brings a lot more features to the table - Integrated Graphics Processing, Turbo-Boost 2.0, but nothing overly significant from a performance perspective, so this processor is still great.
* Blazing fast. I am a windows developer and this is a breath of fresh air. I installed 8G of DDR3 1066 memory from my old laptop which was a macbook. Moved the 500G 7200 RPM HDD to the second bay and installed a Kingston 128MB SSD as the primary hard drive.
* Technically DDR3 1333 is supposed to give you a marginally better boost - higher latency but higher performance. So if you are going to upgrade, I would recommend going to DDR3 1333.
* Full size keyboard and ability to turn the touchpad off with a b

Cons: * Very glossy finish. Tends to collect fingerprints, hair, etc, so requires to be kept clean.
* Power adapter is HUGE. also has the 4-prong connector unlike the dells which tends to move around a bit. Recommended to place on a desk and not on the lap.
* Plastic is not hard, is a little flexible, especially the screen hinge. Again, you're not going to carry it around by holding the screen.
* Definitely recommend getting a good case and not letting the laptop drop - it will break an arm or a leg.
* Didnt come with a bracket for the second hard drive. But I managed to use another bracket that I had lying around. You can use any non-static cardboard/paper, for a secure fit. I would recommend getting a metal HDD enclosure and removing the connector unit and mounting the HDD into it. Get a compact one, you need to make sure it will fit into the space.
* Toshiba has numerous configurations for the X505, that vary in a feature or two. Getting the Memory up to 8G and an SSD in there is gr

Other Thoughts: I had a Dell 1730 for a good 3 years. When the i7 Came out, I moved to a Macbook Pro, but turns out I am not a Mac fan. A similarly configured MBP would set me around $3000 without the blue ray or the Second hard drive.
I run Visual Studio 2010, CS4, and a bunch'o other tools, and let me tell you, the last two days have been sheer pleasure. This one will last me for a good next 3 years. My friend who is a college student bought an identical base unit Q888 earlier this year and his recommendation made me look. From what I can see, this might be the best selling laptop in the community. Even Microsoft Recommends it as the best choice on their web site when you look for a windows 7 recommended hardware.

5 out of 5 eggswow Nice

Pros: Big--Easy to see-Fast--4 core/8 virtual--Drive Bays easy to get at--Lighted keyboard is very nice. Very quiet. Toshiba makes a carry case--TOSHIBA Black with silver accents 18.4" Carrying Case Model PA1447U-1CS8--win7 has "readyboost, try it. It is an inexpensive performance boost.--I am getting an ssd for the readyboost function. Then if the ssd takes a dump nothing lost!--After 5 years of a Dell XPS 2.2 single core this machine is a breath of fresh air.

And don't try to save a buck by getting the lower res model.

Cons: It's so shiny! I should get out my clear no residue car wax and see if that may help with the fingerprint issue. Bluescreen every once in a while--win7 issue. Waiting for a service pack.

Other Thoughts: I bought one of those Logitech Wireless Trackballs. (M570) Helps with the fingerprints.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME LAPTOP

Pros: I have never been a fan of laptops i hate having to use a scroll pad i guess its called , I have owned this laptop for 5 days now and love this thing there is nothing to complain about it except maybe the price i didnt even spend this much on my desktop , but this laptop is super fast and i do picture and video editing and its awesome no lag its just a great laptop .

Cons: i never spent this much on a computer and it is kind of heavy but im not taking it many places im sure someone else would like this more than me.

Other Thoughts: I have never owned a Toshiba product , either a dell or and H-P but this is by far the best computer i have ever owned has all the bells and whistels that you need and the dedicated graphics card makes every thing a pleasure to do, i have only owned it less than a week but loving it so far

5 out of 5 eggsvery pleased

Pros: you can read the specs..great lap top

Screen is very nice, love the 1920/1080

I play COD5 and the quality looks very similar on max screen res, or what i play it on which is the default (1200 something by like 700something, i play on lower settings so i can get 125 fps all the time(i set max to 125) it runs on full settings at about 90-60 fps if through smoke and arty can get to about 45 but its still very clear and smooth.

Cons: I do notice the speaker thing the guy with the low rating gave (fading in and out) it seems like when the sub goes off...the speakers get quieter.
Obviously heavy, but i don't really count this as a con since i knew it going into it(and its really not that bad)

the quick key buttons on the side can get annoying to the right of the keyboard. If you are a gamer you might hit them sometimes and the media player button will minimize the game (i think they should have just kept them at the top, there is plenty of space and i don't think there is a problem with them at the top.

Other Thoughts: Just wanted to give you a few heads up about the lap top, overall i think it is great and would def recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming computer

I do not have the temperatures but the only part that gets hot is the heat sync in the back and the fans seems to be working well blowing cool air (better cooling than i was expecting)

Hope this review helps

5 out of 5 eggsWow what a computer!!!

Pros: This computer is a great desktop replacement for me. What is not to like. Great screen, Great processor, Great graphics and you can take it with you without filling up the trunk of the car!!

Cons: It is not light at all ,but with this much hardware loaded into a portable package it was never intended to be light.

Other Thoughts: For the hardware you are buying the price was one of the lowest that I found. Great Job New Egg!!!

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for the BUCK!!!!

Pros: Whats not to love about this laptop

Screen is awesome, processor is to say the least fast and even has a second hard drive bay so SSD here I come :) I knew this laptop or "Mobile Desktop" would be nice but after using it, this thing has surpassed my expectations. The videocard is great for gaming and the sound is pretty good for a laptop.

Did research on other gaming laptops and this Toshiba blew them away in price and performance. Would recommend this "Mobile Desktop" to anyone who needs serious processing from a laptop.

Cons: Heavy as hell but what do you expect from a laptop err "Mobile Desktop" that has an 18.4" screen, so this is not a complaint just a statement to inform those that think this might be a netbook :)

Other Thoughts: Not sure what problems the first reviewer was having but this one is flawless and I have zero issues with it. I guess every now and then a dud gets out into the general populace
