5 out of 5 eggsI love my laptop

Pros: The hardware on this is excellent. As a technically inclined gamer, I couldn't be more happy with the system specs and its performance.

Cons: The non-glossy anti-glare screen. It's an excellent screen for web design and other business apps, but for the games it's capable of running it's odd that they didn't go with a high gloss. Regardless, I knew this in advance and wasn't surprised/disappointed.

Other Thoughts: The first thing I do with a new computer is wipe it clean and put a fresh copy of xp pro on it. That said, if I didn't, the fat32 drive would've driven me nuts, as would the odd way it was partitioned. However, as I said, I wipe them clean to get rid of value-added software and extraneous other stuff I won't use. Yes you need to use Acer's drivers, but I would expect that and be pleasantly surprised if it was standard video card drivers. Overall, I love this laptop. It's really replaced my desktop for me.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The labtop is outstanding when it comes to running multiple programs at once. I found it easy to use and very flexible.

Cons: Ok theres ALOT of small problems that bothered me...
First of all...
I've had this labtop for about 3 weeks and the webcam on it is already broken.. I've never carried outside my home nor have i handled it roughly at all and the camera on it won't turn on anymore.

Secondly, the screen is just horrible. The viewing angles on it are ridiculous and its EXTREMELY DIM. If your used to desktops be prepared to view a dim screen.

Thirdly, The speakers on this labtop is just crude. Sure its just a labtop but the speakers on here get blotchy when u turn the sound higher.

Theres more...
The labtop came in FAT32 and it was a b**** to convert it to nfts.
The labtop didn't come with a windows OS cd so hence the converting from FAT32 to NFTS was just lame.

The right side of this labtop tends to literally spew out heat. For me its convienient at some times because its cold where i live...most of the time.

Labtop really isn't that great for its price..Pretty sure u can find alot bet

Other Thoughts: Like i stated above... The labtop is pretty good but i'm pretty sure you can find alot better even now or if u wait theres definitely a better buy out there than this labtop.

4 out of 5 eggsDefinately rough around the edges

Pros: Great for running more than one 3D app. (ADT2006 w/ 3D VIZ) at the same time. That is, when the video software isn't acting up. Screen angle is ok, not as bad on mine as some others. WiFi card has excellent reach.

Cons: I've had the same problems as N/A. CLI.exe continues to run until memory is used up, then cycle repeats, prompting restart. Very annoying when working on a project, especially when presenting to a client! This seems to be brought on when connecting to an aux. monitor and using dual monitor mode. Rarely, graphics do hang on the screen until app. is closed. I believe all of these problems are caused by Acers (very unreliable) video drivers for a card that ATI will not support. I'll follow N/A's advice and uninstall Cat. Control.
Also, upon start up or restart or after Hibernation, I have to bring up the screen brightness to my desired level, very low at first.

Other Thoughts: Other than the video card problems (and the fact that I bought this laptop 5 months ago for $500 more) this computer is great for running multiple apps. not to mention also great for HL and other games.

3 out of 5 eggsNot recommeneded

Pros: Powerful processor(s)
Plenty ram
Fast video card
Excellent screen resolution
fairly intuitive design (why no usb on the back instead of ps2????)

Cons: Screen. It is actually is almost bright enough but has one of the worst viewing angles I have ever seen. When the top of the screen is straight on, the bottom seems dim!

Not compatible with standard ATI drivers; must use ACER's buggy and old version.

NIC problem - if firewall is disabled, cpu usage steadily increases until machine is unusable.

Video driver problems - With ATI Cat. control center, continuously spawns instances of "CLI.exe" causing lags in performance. This goes away if you uninstall the ATI Cat. control center and leave just the ATI drivers.

Another video driver or hardware version. One of the laptops has problems driving the LCD at full resolution and a CRT at 1280x1024x85Hz simultaneously in multi-monitor mode. The laptops display suddenly shuts of after a few minutes; sometimes starnge distorted images are still visible.

As mentioned no reinstall media.

Other Thoughts: It is very attractive and has nice features but is very rough around the edges. I build computers regularly and am a programmer so I can deal with that but the screen is a show stopper. I use a computer all day everyday and that makes the screen one of the most important items. This one just does not cut it. I ordered two of these, one for myself and one for a colleague and so can see that these bugs are at least common to the two of them. On mine, I completely wiped the hard drive and reinstalled XP professional and all drivers. The problems listed are on both the "as shipped" machine as well as the fresh install. If I could, I would return these.

5 out of 5 eggsVERY good performance

Pros: I got this laptop a little over a month ago, and it is one of the best things I have ever purchased with $xxxx. It has a powerful processor and graphics card, and the 2 GB of ram make it a steal for that price. The screen is very bright and vivid, and the carbon fiber case is great for showing off.

Cons: The laptop tends to run pretty warm, and the regular speakers are definately not reccomended for your average audiophile. Also, the battery life is low, but that is to be expected with the performance.

Other Thoughts: Very good laptop for gaming, provided you get a laptop cooler, and a good set of headphones.

2 out of 5 eggsNo reinstall software at all...

Pros: Beautiful, light, thin, powerful.

Cons: FAT32 installed into 3 partitions, over 45 minutes on Acer's website (T3 Connection) trying to navigate their laggy website, and 30 minutes waiting to talk to someone before the customer service representative refused (yes, refused) to send any reinstallation software.

Other Thoughts: Let the buyer beware. FAT32 is not a good choice in a domain environment, and Acer will not send you a Windows XP CD to allow you to perform a clean install. Now to uninstall Acer's bloatware off of 6 new laptops...

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very Fast Processor, I haven't maxed it out yet, but I haven't tried video editing yet. Plays most of the new games at high quality settings, but usually not at the max screen resolution. The build quality is pretty solid.

Cons: Same as the others said. I was really disappointed at the screen, I almost returned it, but eventually I got use to it, and I needed a laptop. The audio pretty much sucks too, but not so bad if you use some good headphones. The built in wireless card would drop the connection a lot in some places, so I had to play with the settings and make sure it always used max power. If I play a game on the battery, I only get about 1 1/2 hours, if internet browsing I get about 2:40 using wireless. Turning down the brightness harldy gives me more time. I think the bluetooth phone is worthless, but the built in mic does pretty good for VOIP.

Other Thoughts: I like to travel a lot, and walk around a lot. I might buy a smaller laptop for travel, just because I only use the internet when I travel, and this get's kind of heavy after awhile. The built in wireless card would drop the connection a lot in some places, so I had to play with the settings and make sure it always used max power.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer 8204WLMi

Pros: The first and biggest Pro (because I'm a gamer) would have to be it plays every game I throw at it...VERY WELL. I recently bought FEAR and I didn't think it would be able to run it on high setting, because it is a very demanding game. Proved me wrong. This laptop can handle the game on max settings decently, and high settings very well. The Overall specs of this computer just speaks for itself, and it has every port imaginable. I also love the keyboard. It has always taken me a few days to get used to a laptop keyboard, but this one felt comfortable and I can reach every key with procession & accuracy since the day I got it. Don't be tricked into thinking this laptop doesn't have processing power behind it. It may only be a 2.0, but I'd bet my money it can compete with a 4.0, mainly because of its dual core power. A faster single core CPU probably loads single applications faster than this CPU. Load as many programs as you like on this CPU, because once running it can't beat.

Cons: No laptop is without a few cons, but these cons aren't worth giving it a lower rating. I have found 4 REAL cons (I'll explain "REAL" in a minute). 1) Acer support sucks. There "websites" are good, but only call them if you yourself cannot fix the problem, because you'll be on hold for quite some time. And your call might be dropped. Mine was and they don't call you back. Eventhough they had my name and number. 2) DVD quality also sucks. You can bearly and I mean bearly hear anything and the picture quality just looks bad. I did just buy a sound card and 2.1 speakers and now I can hear very clealy and the sound quality is excellent. Amazingly the picture quality has also increased... ummm. 3) This con will probably not happen to you, but after 5 hours of using my laptop I wasn't able to access my BIOS. Called acer support(painstaking process) and I flashed the BIOS and it is now better then before. 4) Kind of already said this, but I'll say it again. The sound just sucks.

Other Thoughts: What I mean by REAL cons is some people just complain too much. Like most people complain about the side air vent. WOW!! I can bearly notice the vent and when I do, all I have to do is move my hand down a few inches and what-do-you-know... Problem solved. Stop complaining! Some advice I'd give is don't reformat the hard drive just to get rid of all of acer's junk they put on it. But, if you do don't get rid of the 4GB hidden partition. I didn't think I'd need this and deleted it and I wish I didn't. It might come in handy. Don't delete all of acer's bloat-ware that comes on the laptop right away either. Actually look through It. Personally I only like one of there programs (ePower), but some of them are acutally not bad. This laptop is worth every penny and although you do need to adjust it to your liking and delete and add a few programs when you get it, it won't let you down. Wish I had more room to write all the other Pros about it, but I think you get the message.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA White lines on display

Pros: I would give this on a thumbs up looking at the specs. It was DOA and the LCD was filled with white lines. I have summitted an RMA to newegg and I hope the new one will do better and arrive soon. I'm very dissapointed and way behind work because of this inconveience.

Cons: If it worked I would know and tell you.The biggest con is itn doesent work out of the box.

Other Thoughts: Still looks like a nice unit for the money, but why did I have to get the lemon :(

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Super Fast!!!

Pros: Really fast, great video subsystem. Bluetooth with EDR has an awesome quality. Awesome look with carbon chasis and smiling keyboard.

Cons: Could have a better screen. No OS disk (Hello for $2K?). Had to merge two partitions and convert to NTFS.

Other Thoughts: 3.5 hours of battery life for this type of laptop is really good. A definite buy that is worth of every dollar.
