2 out of 5 eggsNothing but problems

Pros: duel hard drives, large screen.

Cons: Flaw in this laptop causes the mouse to lock up every min or so.. also locks up when running a video file for a second every min or so. No 64 bit extentions with this processor, the recovery CD forces format of your hard drive to fat 32.. terrible if you do video editing. unit can do raid, but you need to update the Bios to do it.
With all the advanced features this unit has, they are eather locked out by not haveing 64 bit extentons, or forcing fat 32 hard drive configuration.
Poor configuration. Windows should be supplied with an OEM cd rather than a recovery system that is flawed.

1 out of 5 eggsCustomer Service Lacking at Best

Pros: When Acers work they work well with great reaction, clarity, and sound.

Cons: Acer's "24 hour" technical support is a joke. I found what it means is a machine that picks up, lets you wait for 5 minutes then offers to take a message or hangs up on you, and those messages aren't ever returned.

Other Thoughts: If all works well Acer machines seem to be as good as the next...if it doesn't you seem to be substantially left out in the cold.

5 out of 5 eggsBiggest

Pros: Great screen, plenty of features! This laptop is packed! It plays HL2, Counter-Strike:Source, WOW, and Company of Heroes with no hiccups. I love the DVI output as I use my 37" 1080p Westinghouse as the primary monitor when not traveling.

Cons: It's heavy, bulky and is not designed for your lap. Stupid keyboard layout (dedicated Euro and $ key?). I opted for an external keyboard and mouse. It also uses an external device for reading the remote. How hard would it be to integrate the IR sensor in the case? There is plenty of room!

Other Thoughts: Despite all I complain about I recommend it strongly as a desktop replacement with a gorgeous HUGE screen and plenty of power.
Didn't want to review until I found a bag. Ebags dot com turned out to be my savior. The bag I got was 21"x14"x9". I know, the laptop is 16" wide but it fits like a glove will plenty of space for peripherals and even provides some padding. Clever backpack design under fifty bucks!
I also found a dedicated neoprene sleeve but for the asking price of a hundred bucks I could sew my own...

4 out of 5 eggs2 months in action

Pros: Screen: high quality, perhaps the best among notebooks. Acer did not publish any serious specs about the matrix, but it doesn't look like a TN because of it's wide viewing angles, relatively accurate colors and relatively high contrast. The native resolution of 1680x1050 is perfect for the 20" screen size - anything above that would would be a stretch for people who don't have perfect vision. Another interesting detail is the thickness of the screen, which is comparable to a stand-alone LCD - this may explain the quality. Screen is the main reason why I bought this model.

Features: Loaded. Two(!) Hard drives: set up RAID, separate data files from system, easy upgrade and backup, etc.

Cons: Design
1. Keyboard: the overall width allows for a real full-size keyboard, where the arrows/delete/printscreen buttons are between the alphabet keys and the keypad. Why did Acer use a compromise keyboard from 17" screen size notebooks?
2. No carrying bag: why not make one available?
3. "Laptop" memory approach: once you start merging a notebook with a workstation, you might as well provide better memory options. I could really make use of two additional memory slots and upgrade to 4GB total, which would be a much healthier environment for the type of work I do.

Standard Acer problems
1. Support: hard to reach and not very helpful. They don't let you service the laptop: you have to ship it to Texas if you want to make use of warranty (which makes the warranty pretty useless).
2. Absence of Windows installation CD. What you get is a useless FAT32 Ghost image.

Other Thoughts: Weight/size combination...
you should know what you are buying. It's not a laptop but rather a "transportable workstation". It's heavy and they don't make padded bags for this laptop size yet (as of December 2006). In practice, you don't want to transport this notebook more than twice a week.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Laptop to have

Pros: All of the features that I wanted: 20.1 screen, tv tuner, 2gb ram and raid 0. I mostly wanted the screen size to replace my desktop at work. I did even find a carring case at "the p---h" that is working great. I am one of those dorks that carry this monster back and forth from work. It is heavy buy not too bad.

Cons: This doesn't come with Software CD's at all- other then the raid driver and raid app. The first time you boot it up, it will have you make your own recovery disks with 7 cd's or 2 dvd's.
You have to perform a bios update to enable raid, then it will have you install the raid app in windows. LAME!!!

Other Thoughts: I gave this 4 stars because of the trouble with the raid and didn't come with the XP install cd's but after you get the install out of the way this laptop is just as fast as my desktop. It even works well for most games even with the nvidia 7600 go video card. Don't get too excited about the speakers and the subwoofer, it still sounds like a laptop. The keyboard is a little floppy so I am using a blutooth keyboard and mouse at work, but on the go or at home it does work fine. Overall for its size and components for the price, I think, is the best laptop out there.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal!

Pros: the screen, 2 hard drives in raid, Vista Premium REady, the price

Cons: fat32 format, can't find a case yet so i worry a little when i travel with it.

Other Thoughts: i use it to present a DVD to people interested in what my little company does... it adds impact to the presentation!

also, i use it to trade currencies. it has plenty of room for all my charts.

my family loves watching movies on it.

the weight doesn't bother me.

i love it!

5 out of 5 eggsA big, big, big laptop!

Pros: Beautiful display, probably the best display on the market, Great DVD authoring software, awesome sound system, lots of great built in hardware and features, RAID 0, 1 and Intel Matrix RAID configuration software included for easy set up, legacy ports for using your old printers, ZIP drives, scanners etc.

Cons: Remote does not stash into laptop, should have dumped the legacy ports and added more than 3 USB ports,

Other Thoughts: It's a big laptop, no doubt about it. But it is a great entertainment center, with plenty of power to get work done. The DVD authoring software is great, burned 2 movies onto DVD-R media without a glitch. The 9805 comes with Acer Grid Vista, which allows you view and work in 4 document windows at once. Lots more to offer, I reccommend the Acer 9805

5 out of 5 eggsGreat notebook

Pros: Awesome LCD widescreen and compared o D**l this is so much cheaper. Never had any problems yet.

Cons: Just a little on the heavy side but I love the attention I'm getting.

Other Thoughts: After so much searching for carrying case for this huge 19 in. laptop, I finally found one on E***. It is a very nice leather case that is so amazingly cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsNext one

Pros: Huge screen, I am a Security Consultant and travel 100%. I take my laptop everywhere for work and play. My last acer 1812 went to iraq and back and went through some tough places and didnt miss a beat, acer has vastly improved its product line.

Cons: If you know what your buying. There won't be any

4 out of 5 eggsNice laptop

Pros: RAID, WEBCAM, TV TUNER, NICE VIDEO CARD, PRICE, HD DVD

Cons: SLOW WEBCAM, HARD DRIVE SET PRIMARY AS FAT32

Other Thoughts: its a very nice laptop and really cheap if you look those specs, dxxl are selling the same one for $4,323 (no webcam, no hd dvd , only 1 hard drive) , I don't know why acer set the laptop with fat32 hard drive but that you can change, you can use it to workout also (18 pounds), need to fin a case for it.
