acer good/newegg better place to buy
- Pros: windows XP media,not vista .it was open box better price,great newegg service you guys are the best i ever dealt with,as far as web store A+
- Cons: none that i can think of,bit scared of the fact i purchased open box special,but only miss one item which i really don't need (phone cord)for the price it can't be beat.
- Other Thoughts: newegg is a place you can trust,never had a problem that couldn't be worked out,they go beyond the call of great sevice .
Good Basic Buy
- Pros: Better than expected build quality. No LCD display problems. Runs Win XP well with 512MB, actually somewhat faster than I expected for the Celeron. It has two memory slots, for thirty bucks I added another 512MB, which gives a modest inrease in perceived performance. Not too much bloatware. Included Acer utilities (backup, disk burning, DVD player, etc) are usable, but you will want something better. Network, wired and wireless, works as it should. Ripped/burned a DVD movie in 70 minutes. Pentium D 3.5G desktop did same in about 20 min. GMA950 graphics are just fine for desktop work and video stuff - this is obviously not a game machine.
- Cons: Poor battery life - about 90 minutes. This is not a laptop for battery use, more a portable to plug in. But that is all I wanted. HD is setup with two 25GB partitions, FAT32, with one 5GB hidden system restore partition. I converted them to NTFS. If you have media files, 50GB of disk starts looking very small. No WinXP installation disk, so make a disk image backup!
- Other Thoughts: This was bought for foreign travel. Since it may end up lost/stolen/trashed, just needed basics at a low price. This does it. After a week testing, configuring, playing, would buy it again.
Great buy for the dollar
- Pros: Great features (DVDR Combo drive, 60gb harddrive, 15.4 Widescreen). I got it with the 1gb of crucial combo deal and with the 1.5 gb of ram it is quite the beast. It was nearly impossible to find a system without Vista, so WinXP Media Center was a blessing.
- Cons: Low battery life (about an hour to an hour and a half) but I usually have it plugged in so it hasn't bothered me.
- Other Thoughts: Definitely a great buy.
