3 out of 5 eggsNo time for trouble shooting

Pros: -Windows 7 installed
-Solid Webcam features

Haven't had a chance to explore much more . . .

Cons: First, why so little documentation?

Within 3 hours of deleting bloat and downloading Firefox + basic protection software, I was getting blue screen failures. Still diagnosing the cause, but I suspect driver corruption or an interrupted Windows update. I've had to experiment in safe mode for two days, find time between school obligations, to isolate the issue.

Other Thoughts: Track pad is not a problem with the toggle on/off option. I may resolve the issues soon enough, but I had only begun tweaking the machine when blue screen failures appeared. Extraction of the driver zip files is causing some problems as well. May turn out fine, but I'm too busy for system failures out of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsCustomer Service - Top Notch!!!

Pros: Purchased this on sale at the end of Oct. for a Christmas present for my daughter. Turned it on when it arrived, and set it up for internet access at my home, and again at her Mother's home. The week before Christmas, I turned it on again to burn recovery disks, and the screen was filled with static, dual icons, and all were jumping. Spent the next couple of hours with Acer tech support, at which time he tried to convice me it was a problem with the hard drive, and that I would have to send it to Acer. Next morning, I spent at least an hour typing back and forth with customer support at Newegg. Yes, I knew I was past the 30 day warranty period from purchase, but after being transferred to Becky, within a few minutes, I was sent an RMA right away. The laptop was inspected, was toast, and I was sent a new one asap. I have purchased much from Newegg in the past, and have nothing but praise for them, especially since this purchase, and not having to deal with Acer Service.

Cons: Not a problem with the hard drive as told to me by Acer Tech Support. Rebooted a number of times with Acer Tech, and each time windows 7 came up, but the monitor display continued to be static, jumping, and double icons. BOO to Acer Support!!!

Other Thoughts: Upon receiving the second laptop, I burned the disks, and had to send it to my daughter that had returned to FL. It is an awesome laptop for the dollar, and I have never had a problem with Acer laptops, of which I have purchased many, and recommended to many who have also had no problems. I will continue to recommend Acer, but hope their service will improve. Thanks again to Newegg, and Becky, you are truly top notch!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Very nice notebook, has all up-to date features including win 7 which works very good on this machine.
Fast and very nice graphics, sound is decent. Thanks Newegg and UPS for fast delivery.

Cons: Some bloatware, but not as much as some other manufacturers. Nice blue cover shows fingerprints.

4 out of 5 eggsNice laptop for the money!

Pros: Quick, quiet laptop with great graphics, plenty of memory and hard drive capacity. Primarily for business use & as a NetFlix player after hours. I haven't loaded my graphics software but I am confident that this laptop is more than capable of handling consumer level (for website graphics etc) software packages.

Overall this machine really impressed me with the speed and usability... the great graphics for NetFlix is a bonus!

Numeric Keypad is a pleasant surprise - overlooked it in feature list but glad to see it.

Fast & reasonably priced without a ton of bloatware. EASY to get up and running if you are a novice... this would be an EXCELLENT laptop for grandma & grandpa or any novice computer user. Has all the features and basic software a new user (or Freshman student) needs to get up & running.

NewEgg, as always, had it out the door almost as fast as I submitted the order... UPS had it here in three business day

Cons: Keyboard is offset a bit to allow numeric keypad (which is a bonus!) so it takes a bit of getting used to - I'm still hitting the touchpad with my palm and sending the mouse on random adventures.

Setting up some of the software means giving more personal info out than you should and/or ongoing communication from the laptop to Microsoft, McAfee etc. As soon as all the software free trials expire they'll be stripped & replaced with AVG etc.

NetZero etc preloaded... I would have MUCH rather had all the bloatware on a CD to install features that were relevant rather than spending the afternoon deleting unwanted programs. McAfee sometimes makes random ventures over to it's website trying to get me to register.

NO INSTALLATION DISCS - but a minor gripe -IF- you back up daily & make recovery discs NOW.

Other Thoughts: Touchpad is easily turned off & on for other fumble fingered souls...
Windows 7 is preloaded and sets itself up quickly after entering your router info or plugging into your home network but features take getting used to compared to XP Pro.
Online trial of MS Office 2007 doesn't appear to include Outlook. (Quickly replaced by old 2003 Office package I had.)

4 out of 5 eggsA budget laptop, but a solid choice

Pros: The design feels very nice. It's fairly pleasing to the eye and feels decently made for a laptop in this price range. The LCD is also of a good quality and has a slight gloss which looks rather pretty.

Windows 7 runs quite well on this laptop. 320 GB is a good amount of space for this budget-model laptop and the 4 GB of RAM allows you to multitask quite well. The AMD processor never seemed to be particularly choked by the general usage I threw at it which was good.

Internet browsing and typing is fine with a fairly comfortable, flat keyboard. The sound output is good and pretty clean overall and the speakers are good for a laptop in this price range. Combine that with the good screen and you have a good option for watching DVDs and movies.

The microphone and webcam also work quite well with Skype with no additional setup needed.

Cons: The touchpad is functional but will sometimes cause you misery. It is not recessed and it's likely that you'll consistently tap it while you type.

The multitouch gestures were not good at all. Two-finger scrolling was fine, but the flick navigation caused me to constantly go back while typing posts. Turn them off and save yourself frustration.

There are points when the processor seems to get a little bothered, and the fan will kick on to compensate. It doesn't get terribly hot, but it is significantly audible.

The position of the right side USB ports is also awkwardly placed by the front of the laptop which interferes with a USB mouse for right-handers, as your wrist will hit the plug and cord. Left-handers have a much better position on the left side of the laptop.

No restore CD/DVD is included with this laptop. You will be prompted to create a recovery image shortly after starting up your Aspire for the first time, taking about 3 DVDs and an hour of your time

Other Thoughts: In this price range, it's a solid, competent laptop for most users. It will handle the needs of a casual user without too many issues. Windows 7 is pleasant to use, and the Aspire is nice for movies, Internet browsing, older/more casual games, and Skype.

It's not going to be highly portable though. The size combined with about a 2 hour battery life don't make it an ideal travel partner on long trips.

If you have a need for a cheap, good little laptop to take from place to place this will do the trick.

However, as the price on this laptop rose about 25% from the time of purchase to this review, you may find better value for money if you're willing to spend $100-$200 more.

1 out of 5 eggsGood to Bad

Pros: Worked great for about 1week solid!
Great price for what it came with, 4GB memory, 320HD, HDMI, Wireless Draft N. Looks Sleak, nice screen and graphics, Windows 7 64BIT version.

Cons: First off, I got a lemon, New Years Day, Crashed, never to return to normalcy. Reloaded the software 3 times per tech support that was very obviously outsource overseas. AMD processor always skeptical, yet another disappointment, seemed to run slow. DDR2 667. Touchpad super sensitive, but I didn't really get a chance to tweak it if possible. Keyboard takes some time to get used to. Battery life ok, like 1hr 30mins. Failed evertime I tried to create the backup system CD's, but that could be from the system being bad.

Other Thoughts: I have shipped to Acer Repair in Texas, so waiting to find out what exactly went wrong. The shipping is free, but they don't email you label you have to bring to a Fedex Shipping Depot and give them a shipping #.

Pros: This is in response to a previous poor rating of this product. first lap top deliverd to me DOA. This replacement model has worked perfect from day one. very nice size key board great screen! I like the enhanced number keys to the right side.

windows 7 64 bit not compatable to black berry. I wont to use my black berry with both my work lap top and this one. Microsoft and black berry need to work on this issue.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Awesome computer. Boots up so much faster than any of the laptops I've used with vista. Windows 7 is amazing. The mouse while not being centered to the computer is centered to the keyboard so works fine for me. Keyboard is easy to get used to. I'm so glad I purchased this computer and would recomend it to anyone.

Cons: The screen is a little short but I'm used to large screens for my desktop. Blah blah bloatware just delete it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg took almost two weeks to deliver with 3 day shipping. Sad day :(
