X41 Tablet
- Pros: -Great viewing angle - my last tablet (unnamed, but larger, heavier, and cheaper) had to be propped up when in tablet mode to even see the image. The X41 viewing angle is enough to share with your friends.
-Really lightweight - the X41 can be comfortably and confidently lifted and held with one hand. -Speedy - the new Intel 9 series mobile chipset is fast. (PCIe, etc) -Fingerprint Scanner - especially nice in tablet mode so you needn't type a password -IBM Software - unlike with most computer manufacturers, IBM's software is good and helpful. Especially handy is the on-screen toolbox when in tablet mode. -Battery Life - my battery pack is larger than the one pictured, but it gets about 6 hours with light usage and provides a comfortable handle for the computer. -Very nice tablet (the pen interface) - with my last tablet I was constantly recalibrating the pen input. I have never felt the need to do this with the X41.
- Cons: -4200 rpm (slow) hard drive - slows down boot and application launch times.
-Function and Control key locations seem backwards - this still gets to me. -Video - I wouldn't really expect an nvidia or ati chip in a laptop this light, so it's hard to complain here. The video, though not amazing, is enough to play WoW =] -IBM laptops don't have a windows key. With the included software I mapped my right alt key to windows, so this is only a minor inconvenience.
- Other Thoughts: I have one of these on loan for the semester from my school. Last semester I had an Acer C300, so many of my views of the X41 are in comparison with that.
I did not list the trackpoint mouse as a disadvantage because I quickly got used to it and now prefer it to a touchpad.
The extra buttons available in tablet mode are really handy - a second power button, a switch to disable the power button, and things like rotate, escape, enter, and the on-screen menu thing (toolbox).
Great
- Pros: Light weight, very portable.
Writing on screen very wide veiw angle. Full size keyboard. Virtual CD software included for the lack of CD rom.
- Cons: 4 Cell battery life is very limited. I can only go about 1.5 hours typing on it, 2.5 hours doing nothing.
The lack of an CD rom drive. Gets bit toasty. MS Office not included (I'm asking too much)
- Other Thoughts: First thing I've done before turning on the tablet for the first time is upgrade it to 1GB of ram so it will run smoother.
I've been using this laptop for school. So far the only trouble I'm having is the battery life, and how the hdd stops if I shake too much(can be changed, hdd-anti shock makes me feel safe though, but it lags the load time). As for the HDD size, 40GB is enough for me. I have a desktop at home so I never really use this laptop for anything more than just work. Well... I've got WC3 installed with iso made from the saftware included so I can run without CD rom. the game runs fine, but the system got very toasty, and my HDD space isn't looking very good. The audio isn't bad, no base but volume can go pretty high without losing the sound quality (40GB isn't enough for MP3. This is my first tablet, so I can't compare to the rest but being able to type and draw when you need while taking notes in class, the experience is great.
Quality Product
- Comments: This is a very well made tablet which I can recommend with no reservations. I have had difficulty on the Lenovo website as they don't yet recognize the model # 1859-5CU, but this is a minor gripe. Great keyboard, great display, very light but feels solid. Looks as though the IBM switch to Lenovo has not affected their tradition of quality notebooks
