5 out of 5 eggsStill a Sweet Laptop

Pros: see previous review Sweet Laptop

Cons: well lack of ExpressCard slot and only initial 512MB ram (as 1GB is needed nowadays)

Other Thoughts: Get 2GB of RAM from NewEgg with this purchase as that is what I did back in July but forgot to mention it in previous review. I slapped in two 1GB sticks of RAM after testing with the 512MB it came with. This increased the performance 100% to function at full cpu power. You won't regret it! The graphics performance is good enough for me, plays DVDs well, burns DVD's fast, and only played The Sims 2. Purchased the OCZ Value 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 Notebook Memory. Will definately look into other Lenovo products in the future.

3 out of 5 eggsNot please but got what I paid for

Pros: Outstanding feature set at price. Attractive case design.

Cons: Totally died after installing memory upgrade; I'm spooked. Reset to default config, still nothing. Had to return to Lenovo for repairs, client waiting, makes me look bad!

Also, totally non-plussed at not having at least a restore disc? If my client didn't have an XP VLK I'd be quite upset at being presented with a space-wasting ghost partition as a viable system restoration strategy. Duh, what if the hard drive dies or the filesystem gets trashed?

Other Thoughts: They did send a DHL box ASAP but I am definitely feeling a little suckered. Lenovo's first foray outside of IBM standard Quality Control is not good. They also bought eMachines I understand, improved their QC, so what gives?

5 out of 5 eggsreally nice laptop

Pros: Love the 1680 x 1050 resolution and the clear crisp screen; makes me wonder how I can live with the 1024 x 768 of my laptop at work! Extremely fast processor and after adding 1GB memory, overall speed is fantastic. Am wondering what a 7200 rpm 100GB disk would add to the overall performance.

Cons: Forget the speakers. Need to get the recovery disks or make my own. Should come with more memory; it felt sluggish with only 512MB.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, especially when considering the price!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Notebook

Pros: Very good product. Unfortunately, after having it for 4 days, the processor died. Called Lenovo's Customer Service and was real satisfied with their friendliness and knowledge of the product. Lenovo had a box at my doorstep the next morning. I sent out my laptop at about 12:15 central time on a Wednesday and it came back the following Monday. Talk about fast and reliable service!

Cons: 1 Year Warranty

Other Thoughts: Since the laptop has been returned, it has been runing great!! Just upgraded it to 2 gigs of RAM and am very pleased.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great price for the performance.

Cons: Speakers are somewhat disappointing but I use headphones most of the time anyways so not a problem for me.

Other Thoughts: I only did the initial setup with the stock 512MB of RAM then I turned the laptop back off, installed 2GB of PC5400 and it runs extremely fast.

5 out of 5 eggsGood overall laptop!

Pros: This laptop comes equipped with the new Intel Core Duo T2400 processor (so far has been faster then my Athlon XP 3000 desktop). The screen is glossy and has a high resolution of 1280x1024. I was considering the Acer Aspire AS5672WLMi that includes the x1600 video card, but have read bad reviews of it overheating and the lower resolution threw me off. The Lenovo is surprisingly cool, light, and quiet. The Geforce Go 7300 isn't made for gaming but performs well with games such as Age of Empires III and The Sims 2.

Cons: It needs to come with 1GB ram to compete with other brands and boost system performace a bit. Didn't come with any drivers or Windows recovery disk. I later found out that 5GB of the hard drive is partitioned with recovery files. The laptop has a button that is used for recovery when it is booting in DOS. Worked like a charm!

Other Thoughts: Overall a great laptop. Will satisfy most everyday processes and moderate gaming. I never thought much of the fingerprint reader but the more I use it, the more I love it.

2 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Keyboard is nice. Screen background is nice and dark/black--very good color and brightness.

Cons: Immediately on the first power up, half of the monitor was not working properly--vertical bars with flickering, horizontal lines. Contacted Lenovo tech support and they said I would need to send it in for repair. They could not tell me how long it would take to fix and that they would not provide a refund.

Other Thoughts: While I'm sure the notebook is nice while working, I'm disappointed that the only solution is to return a notebook for service on the first day of owning it when I paid $50+ to ship it overnight for a new employee who will now have to use a pad and paper for who knows how long. I was considering replacing the existing notebooks in our company with these, but I will not buy another Lenovo due to the ridiculous return/warranty policy.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for your Buck

Pros: This laptop drops all the unneccessary features and goes for pure performance. The extremely high-res screen is gorgeous and the gaming performance is quite good. It's not too heavy or hot and the battery life is ~4 hours if you don't keep the video card overclocked or a CD in the drive.

Cons: -GeForce Go 7300 isn't a great performer with the most modern games. You have to stick to older games or back the settings off quite a bit in the new ones.
-More RAM is a must. I bought 1 GB PC5300 the next day, so I could eventually get up to the 2 GB max in the future
-The keyboard feels nice, but the layout is bizarre. Fn key is to the left of the Ctrl key, so I've been putting it in suspend when trying to close a tab in Firefox by mistake. Also Home and End are secondary Fn functions of the oddly placed PgUp and PgDn keys.

Other Thoughts: The speed of this laptop for the price blows me away. I also considered another laptop for the same price that had a 17 inch screen, a full numpad on the surface, and lots of pretty blue LEDs. But at 8.1 lbs and almost half the speed of the Lenovo, I went for the performance.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: First off, wow. This laptop is fast, big (in terms of HD capacity), and light. The duo 1.83 GHz processor is plenty fast for almost any application (A little more memory couldn't hurt). The screen is very bright and quite substantial in real estate (and no dead pixels!). I love the keyboard and and layout of ports (and the labels on top). The fingerprint reader, despite my pre-conceived notions, is quite accurate... I thought that it wouldn't recognize it sometimes and I would eventually end up disabling it. Definately not the case; it's accurate, fun, and convenient (you can use it for program and website logins/passwords).

Cons: This is a tough section... I think the only thing I'll ever change on this laptop is the memory. Another 512 mb or 1 Gb would be helpful for running programs that require higher speeds (like music or video editing). This is hardly a "con " though. I didnt like, however, that back-up discs weren't included...

Other Thoughts: As soon as you get the computer, call up Lenovo and have the back-up discs sent to you (they should be free)... They took the cheap way out and created a separate "protected" partition on the hard drive... but if your hd goes belly-up, it goes belly-up and a "protected" partition won't help. They'll only deliver the discs if you've had the laptop less than 2 months. Overall, a 6 out of 5 and a purchase I'll never regret.
