5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Notebook Value

Pros: Excellent notebook for the $$$. Wasn't aware that the wrist-pad and area around the keyboard were brushed metal (aluminum?) -- feels a lot like an Aluminum Macbook Pro (pre-unibody). Very solid notebook with a good solid feel, and excellent performance. Screen is excellent and the keyboard feels awesome. Enough CPU and RAM to give a good Vista Experience that will only get better once Windows 7 is released & installed :-)

WEI Scores:

Overall: 3.7 Determined by lowest subscore

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5900 @ 2.20GHz 5.1

Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB 4.7

Graphics Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family 4.0

Gaming graphics 1759 MB Total available graphics memory 3.7

Primary hard disk 131GB Free (189GB Total) 5.4

Cons: It's really hard to come up with some but:

*Lack of HW Virtualization on the T5900 CPU (However, I knew that before purchasing).

*I feel that DDR2-800 would have better matched the FSB (but would probably provide little real-world performance difference).

*Like another reviewer mentioned, I would have loved WXGA+ (or higher) resolution at this screen size, but can't complain at this price.

*Spent 1 hour uninstalling unneeded/unwanted software (but that would be the same with nearly any notebook). I will say that the Lenovo wasn't nearly as bad in the regard as some others I've seen.

Other Thoughts: I just want to say that this is the first product I've purchased from NewEgg that I felt strongly enough about to come back and actually review.
This is a super notebook and a great deal for anyone looking for a solid, well-built notebook with excellent "everyday computing" performance. If you purchase it, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value!

Pros: Could not find any other systems in this price range with as many features as well as 4 hour battery life. With properly tuned power settings, battery can truly be extended to 4 hours. Replaced OS with Windows 7 RC and it runs perfectly.

Cons: Smaller resolution monitor. This is only a WXGA (1280 x 800) monitor not a WXGA+ (1440x900). WXGA is just not large enough for my liking but am able to overlook due to the price point. No other laptops in this price range include WXGA+ that I was able to find.

Other Thoughts: Lenovo has been the best selling corporate laptop for years. They are just getting their feet wet with the consumer and small business grade laptops such as this. I am plesently surprised and would put this laptop over many other big names such as HP or Dell. Its not as 'fancy' looking, but its durable and has great hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic value

Pros: Great build quality. Lots of features. Lack of junk software. Easy to set up. 1 button recovery. Great value for price. Keyboard has great feel.

Cons: No backup disc. Very little documentation. Windows Vista.

Other Thoughts: Excellent value for the price. Looked at Dell, HP and Toshiba and this offers far superior features and performance for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Its a great laptop if your not planning on gaming with it. The 4 gigs of ram, and the Duo 2.20 ghz Processor is very nice. Also the speakers are amazing, and the sub in it makes for a great movie watching experience.

Cons: The gray hand wrest is not aesthetically pleasing, black would have been better. And of course it comes with a boatload of trialware. Vista is kind of slow of course. The HDD is 5400 rpm.

Other Thoughts: I got scared at first because the sticker/badge near the touch pad said "Intel Centrino Inside" which is not right, It actually has an Intel core 2 duo, Which is what is advertised. Some people have said that they have had trouble with the Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN, but i have had no trouble with it. It also comes with face recognition login, which is cool at first, but usually its just quicker to type in your password.

4 out of 5 eggsLenovo IdeaPad Y530-5900U

Pros: Lots of features. Face recognition is very cool. Vista 64 Home premium. Screen is very good, LED backlit makes huge difference. The laptop is very fast right out of the box and battery life is well over two hours. Unit come with essential software and is not loaded with lots of trial ware. The sound on the laptop is exceptional and this is the first laptop I have seen with a sub. Large HD and lots of memery.

Cons: Trial of Norton Internet Security only lat 90 days and Office 2007 has only 25 uses before you have to buy. The unit construction is subpar from what I have seen in IBM and early Lenovo products. Touch pad scroll feature is not marked and I only found it by accident.

Other Thoughts: Very good personal laptop loaded with features for price range.
