Great laptop
- Pros: Here's what I found when I compared the W3V to my previous laptop Dell Inspiron 8500 (4 y.o.) and my gf's Sony Vaio sz240.
-Great battery life (4hr+ due to the Power4 Gear Utility and its power saving configurations) -Sleek and Sexy design -Weight and size are decent for when you go mobile -Bright and colorful screen -Many wireless features available -Can handle most games (i.e. HL2, WoW) at moderate settings -Fairly low price
Based on some of the other reviews, i've found that my laptop hasn't had any heat problems or no noise from the DVD drive.
- Cons: -Extra buttons on the sides are easy to accidentally hit. Can be annoying at times.
-CPU isn't up to par with today's CPUs, but isn't much of a problem -Speaker output is low
- Other Thoughts: Overall a great laptop. You get the bang for your buck.
Great campus laptop
- Pros: Portable, yet powerful. Good, sturdy design. A poor man's Sony laptop, without the fear of the batteries catching on fire. : ) The laptop comes with a program (icon) to convert the FAT32 to NTFS (no biggie).
- Cons: Last-gen CPU. The hard drive is a bit sluggish on boot (helps battery life last longer though). Some have complained about the side buttons being too sensitive, yet I personally have not encountered any problems with them.
- Other Thoughts: Do not be turned off by the brand name. I personally took a risk buying this laptop over a Dell or a Sony, yet I feel I have made the right choice.
Good Size and Performance
- Pros: I bought this laptop as a secondary computer that I could take with me. I wanted one to perform well with video and something that would be compatible with media equipment such as a digital camera. I haven't used it for video editing or even used it with a digital camera yet but I have used it for troubleshooting other pc's and for general use fairly extensively.
I've heard others mention the heat issue but that really depends on what performance profile you are using. Even at high performance I wouldn't rate the heat a lot higher than any other laptop I've used.
I did a lot of shopping for this laptop and I am well pleased. I was looking at this one and I was looking at a thinkpad.
The wireless on this thing is excellent. The brightness of the screen is one of the brightest I've seen. It's also a very crisp picture. It could use more usb ports but again, I just use it as a secondary computer.
It also comes with a card reader in case the description doesn't tell
- Cons: The side buttons are really handy but they are easy to hit by accident.
The Asus program update could work better. Seems somewhat flaky.
- Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this laptop even for someone's primary computer.
