Sturdy, excellent buy
- Pros: Excellent, fast, sturdy and reliable. Most of the programs that came preloaded were actually useful. Comes with an easy re-install disc with all the programs/drivers easily accessible from a single menu. I haven't found a program it won't run, good video card and 667 front-side bus definitely improves overall speed.
- Cons: For some reason my speakers aren't working now (maybe it's something I did, but... not a huge loss in my book). Came with Windows Media Center ed, -- completely useless -- reformat your drives in NTFS and load winXP pro, i've had no troubles with this computer after doing this. (other than the speakers.. dunno why. other people have commented on ASUS speakers having troubles)
- Other Thoughts: the hard drives are partitioned in a funny way, which is annoying, but nice, because it will keep me from having to back up all my music and other files when i reformat. comes with mouse and bag, which is nice, but if you want to keep your laptop in tiptop shape, buy a new bag. the screen is beautiful and there appears to be sufficient protection to keep keyboard from pressing against screen. I love this computer.
Good laptop
- Pros: Excellent aesthetics, fast, camera is nice.
- Cons: HD is a bit small for me (though perfect for my wife). Comes with the usual pre-installed junk programs.
- Other Thoughts: An excellent computer for a casual user, especially a social Myspace and IM user like my wife.
WOW!!!!
- Pros: This is the best laptop I have ever owned. Very fast (cept at startup cause of SP2 install). Video is flawless, and the Asus features make it even better. Sound is the best Ive heard come from a laptop w/o setting up external speakers.
- Cons: Video card comes with 128mb onboard, but takes from the reg RAM too, mine is reading at 512mb but it doesnt effect the system really. The hard drive comes pre partitioned with 2 Partitions, 50GB and 30GB, both FAT32, but they give a shortcut to convert them to NTFS. The system restore CDs that come with it take a while, bout an hr to restore.
- Other Thoughts: I redid the install with the restore CDs and opted to have a single partition, took about an hr and then I had to convert the drive from FAT to NTFS. I also used Partition Magic to give myself a 10GB partition and used Ghost to make my own backup, also made a DVD copy, id recommend you do the same instead of using their discs.
