Best 14-inch that you can buy
- Pros: This is definitely the best laptop I have ever owned. I switched from a 17-inch monster (Dell Inspiron 9300) to this laptop and it has everything that one did, and more. The built-in webcam is great - one less thing to carry around, and there are more than enough USB ports (5) for a laptop this size. The processor and video card are specced out for a laptop this big. I would recommend upgrading the hard drive to a 7200 RPM SATA and putting in another 1GB of DDR2-667 so it can run at dual channel. The 1 GB preinstalled is good - it means you don't have to replace 2 half-gig sticks. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on (all my friends agree) and most of the laptop is really well thought out. You can even replace the screen while leaving the laptop body intact! The touchpad is sweet and blends in better than on any other laptop. Also, the cooling system is mad 1337. That's not all - DVD dual-layer burner, 3.5 hours of battery life (when optimized), and you're set. Can't beat the 5 lbs.
- Cons: The touchpad scroll sucks and still doesn't really work when you adjust the sensitivity area. This is one area the Inspiron 9300 was much better on. Also, ASUS' current BIOS sucks and you can't get the most out of the battery because speedstep isn't used and the laptop always plugs out the 2GHz when you're on AC and whatever you selected when you're on battery. (Have to use linux to get control over power.) Also when the screen turns off it takes like half a minute for it to turn back on (after you hit a key)...probably another error in the bios/standby code. The top of the case scratches very easily (I put it in a padded case and somehow it already has several scratches.) There is some light leakage from the bottom of the screen but I have never been really concerned about this as it has been on all my other laptops too.
- Other Thoughts: Overall a very well designed laptop, and I can't complain. This is going to put me through the rest of college :)
great laptop at the right price
- Pros: AWESOME notebook for the price!! 512mb on the video card. installed world of warcraft and it plays perfect on all the highest settings!
- Cons: the harddrive came formated stupid. and there are alot of programs that come installed. (but most are realy realy helpfull.) I'm not too sure about the touch pad, maybe I'm just not used to it yet
- Other Thoughts: this is the ebst notebook I have ever had the pleasure of owning! I reccomend it 100%
Bang for you Buck
- Pros: Best laptop I have ever owned or used. I am able to play Oblivion and Company of Hero's all at Medium to Hi graphics with no lag. Very light weight and stays very cool even when playing games for hours. Screen looks incredible during movies, games and normal applications.
- Cons: Bag it a little cheap but the machine makes up for that 10 fold
- Other Thoughts: You really get the most BANG for your buck on this laptop. Newegg was able to ship it to Iraq in 1 1/2 weeks. Thanks for supporting the military Newegg.
