5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutly Fantastic Notebook(after some work)

Pros: Blazing Fast. Amazing Video for a laptop. Easy RAM Upgrades (aren't they all tho...).

Cons: Weird Port placement.

Other Thoughts: Vista Really bites. I'm sorry for all you Vista people out there, but it does really not work at all well. I bought this laptop for running Virtual Machines and playing games. The former it does great out of the box. The latter in directx 10 games run abysmally, Although some things i have read point to DX10 being the culprit. Anyway great notebook just put XP on it. Takes some doing to get all the drivers though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Notebook

Pros: Great Notebook. It has the best features for the price that I could find. Built in webcam and WiFi. 2.0 GHz Dual core. Nice video chip 6800 GS. The screen quality is great and there is an external DVI connector. There are 4 USB connectors. Good size notebook not too thick. The keyboard feels good and the keys do not feel cheap. Vista. haha yeah I said it. I actually like vista. I've had no problems with it. I don't feel installing XP would buy me much performance enhancement. Besides, weather it sucks or not doesn't have anything to do with the notebooks quality. Asus doesn't have much choice with using an operating system. If they install XP then there are going to be end of life and support issues with XP.

Cons: Battery life is a little low but thats what you get with a 6 cell. Only comes with 1 gig of ram but for 30 bucks you can buy another gig. It's really easy to install. Just remove 5 screws and your done. I takes about 2 minutes.

Other Thoughts: Was worried about buying an Asus notebook because I've never used one or know anyone that has one. I really like their motherboards so I gave it a change. I am very glad that I did. I know they make (or did make) notebooks for Sony so that put my mind at ease about buying it. If the quality was good for Sony it should be good for me. I know a lot of people are bashing Vista but I've had no problems with it. The speed is fine and I haven't run into any problems using it. XP may be faster but I'm not sure it would be worth the reinstall. I did buy an extra gig of ram so I did not try running Vista with 1 gig. There are some bloatware programs that you need to remove to optimize boot up.

5 out of 5 eggsNice.

Pros: Most bang for the buck I could find. Swivel cam is nice to film the kid, and watch at the same time. Dedicated video card is great. Build quality is amazing for the price.

Cons: A little bit heavy, but not really a con considering it is built like a tank. Partitioned HD from the factory. It's 160GB, I don't see the need to have 2 partitions. Not sure if the restore disk would allow me to change that with a reinstall, and I don't really store anything on the laptops (I have a MacBook Pro, too). Also has a trial of Norton Internet Security, which is huge and stinks, so that got uninstalled.

Other Thoughts: This was for the wife for Xmas. Comes with Vista, and also bought 4GB of ram to go with it. Can't really complain about it. It is reasonably fast, but XP Pro would probably be twice as fast. The wife likes Vista, so it stays. Go ahead and take the plunge, the features speak for themselves. This laptop rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsSnappy Lappy

Pros: Great Price for a Core 2 Duo, spacious drive and a 8600 series card. Very nice look, and solid feel. Totally made my wife's Xmas. Built in wi-fi a huge plus.

Cons: OK, its kinda bandwagon to pummel Vista, but I booted the lappy as it came and tried to install several programs. Both my wife and I experienced BSOD's about every 20 minutes of usage, until we patched the Nero and installed the SP1 beta. Had Asus readily provided XP drivers, we would have "upgraded" to XP right out of the box.

Other Thoughts: For less than three Hamiltons, we added another GB of RAM, and the difference was quite noticeable. Newegg shipping was awesome! lappy shipped to survive a train wreck, and superfast.
Not many laptops can claim to come close to desktop performance without a huge cost premium. But this little ditty comes quite close.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

Pros: Very nice looking. Nice screen. Nice keyboard. Specs are good. I like the carrying bag. Web cam is great addition. Xp compatible.

Cons: 1gb ram. gs and not gt. Its under clocked as well. GPU gets hot while gaming. 90 Celsius.

Other Thoughts: XP drivers are easy to find. just select a different model. I chose F3sv.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the MOOLAH!!!!

Pros: Well, after reading everyone's comment about upping it w/ 1 gig stick, I gave it a 2 gig stick. Runs great and fast. The drive works well and not too loud. i get good/great graphics playing online games like AA. (hope it could've been better but better than my gateway desktop!) The sound coming from the laptop is great and loud. I would recommend this affordable laptop for gamers. its a Must buy! the keyboard are nice and comfortable. This laptop also came with a bag (which it coulda been bigger) and a mouse which saves money. it took me a week to decided and after reading everyone's helpful comments, I bought IT and LOVE IT!

Cons: When I got this laptop, i couldnt hear music etc on youtube.(must update all to work!) Battery life is low but I'll find a 9 cell for it. There's so much stuff install inthe laptop (not sure which to uninstall...lol)

Other Thoughts: I gave it a 4 b/c the picture showed a fingerprint scanner for the laptop but the one I have has no fingerprint scanner.

[Is it suppose to? anyone help?}

the manual also showed a fingerprint scanner inthere too. I dont know and very frustrated. the specs on this laptop page showed no fingerprint scanner, so i assume there must not be one. right?

another thought is this laptop doesnt get hot! HOT! thats A+!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this laptop

Pros: the laptop might be good but the only problem is you can't down grade to xp .

Cons: You can't down grade to xp. If the laptop is even good you won't know until you get rid of vista. I am having a hard time finding drivers for xp.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT LAPTOP

Pros: this laptop is amazing. no problems with it at all. definnatly worth the price

Cons: VISTA=HORRIBLE tried to deal with it for a little while but got sick of it and installed xp, and the battery life is a little short, 2 hours

Other Thoughts: dont bother with vista, even when the service pack comes out i still wont switch back. and by the way putting xp on this lapop isnt that difficult, just read the forums about it on asus' website.

5 out of 5 eggsStill good

Pros: Have had this laptop for 4 months now. running Xp home. Runs all my games on max settings. Best laptop ever. stop thinking about it and buy it now. I build gaming systems on my off time and this little laptop rocks at gaming when i'm in the field or on the road and can't use my home rigs.

Cons: Don't use Vista until they come out with a service pack.

Other Thoughts: Look on FileFactory for the XP drivers.I have had 46 people contact me for the XP drivers now. Just do some searching, you will fins them on filefactory. It works way better than vista. Also get a second gig of ram. Alot smoother. Newegg rocks with the price of this unit, and the fast shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsTechnical Advice

Pros: GREAT LAPTOP FOR PRICE! "Quality parts assembled by a quality manufacturer shipped from a quality outlet. Core 2 duo processors are the way to go, as is the NVidia DX10 laptop cards"

I purchased a extra corsair 2GB stick vs. purchasing 2x2GB. Now have 3GB of ram and it runs like a champ. You cannot benefit from adding 4gigs unless you run 64-bit vista. 32-bit will only recognize 3.2GB. I like the feature to dedicate some RAM to video. The video card is also able to be over clocked.

Cons: Vista.... Sluggish.... would have liked to have the option of XP. I figured I will have to get used to it eventually so I decided to keep it. Probably upgrading to 64bit but will be keeping it. Although it handles heat well on its own. For you gamers out there, purchase a cooling fan for 20-50 bucks. It keeps the power consumption down and also will keep your laptop healthy for a longer period of time.

Other Thoughts: I sent this message to New egg support.4 day Later.
Message: in looking at purchasing the ASUS F3 Series F3SV-X1 NoteBook - i would like to know my options for purchasing ram upgrade. i would like to either purchase 1 2 gb stick or 2 2 gb sticks of ram. Also wondering if this laptop offers the option of upgrading the video card or processor later if i choose. please give me all the information you can. i would like to make another purchase with new egg. have a great day. THANKS

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

Unfortunately since we do not have certified sales or tech support, I would not be able to make any recommendations. I also don't want to cause any type of inconvenience. I would recommend to go to our new website, www.eggxpert.com, where we have certified tech support forums or you can contact the manufacture for for confirmation of compatibility prior to purchasing.
