Without proper ventilation, your notebook is forced to work overtime trying to keep the system from overheating. This causes your fans to kick into high speed, hurts performance and lowers battery life. The BYTECC NC-500 aluminum notebook cooling pad solves these problems.
Its lightweight aluminum housing allows for good thermal heat dissipation, while twin, self-changeable ball-bearing fans with built-in fan guards pull heat away from the hottest areas of your laptop. The fans spin between 3,200rpm and 3,500rpm to keep them from creating excessive noise. However, an on/off switch is built in should you want to shut them off entirely. They're also USB powered, keeping you from needing a separate power source for them. The pad itself is angled up at the back to allow for a more ergonomic typing angle.

My second BYTECC cooler and more mods
- Pros: This is a great product, especially for the price. I might suggest to anyone in the market for a cooler to get the engineering specs to insure the fans line up where you want them. Or ... maybe start a company that makes specialty coolers that fit each different model of notebook. BUT .... meanwhile .... this is where it is at. This is my second NC-500 (USB) and I bought it to cool my Macbook Pro which I am about to get. My first one keeps a Clevo by Xtreme Notebooks very cool and it is loaded to the max. Note the mods below.
- Cons: None that I have seen in my experience with my first NC-500 (USB) which I have had for 6 months.
- Other Thoughts: OK.... In a previous post I suggested some modifications which dealt with the desk surface scratching problem and the noise associated with hard to hard surface contacts. I have an upgraded version of that mod.
If there is a Dept. Store near you, go into the hardware department and locate the shelf which displays SoftTOUCH Bumper Value Pack, product number 2101. It has a variety of rubber stick on round, both flat and 10 bubble (raised) shaped, bumpers. Place bubbles (raised), one each, to each of the four corners on the top surface which the notebook will sit on. This will make the cooler more stable when your notebook sits on it. Turn the cooler over and stick either 2 bubble (raised) bumpers on each end of the narrow surface that has no rubber on it, or place 2 to 4 of the small round flat rubber bumpers spaced evenly on it. make sure they stick well. You may want to make sure the surface of the cooler is very clean before applying the bumpers. Store the rest for other projects
Not good for excessive use
- Pros: The angle of the product allows extra air to rush in. Using aluminum rather than plastic allows for more heat to be absorbed out of the laptop. The USB port isnt lost with the one attatched. It's not noisy.
- Cons: After 2 months of every-day use (my laptop runs 24/7) the right fan stopped working completely.
- Other Thoughts: I've gone through a few laptop coolers. Although this one doesn't seem to last, none of them do. And this one has been the best so far.

Works great!
- Pros: It is inexpensive and effective. i am using this for an 18" laptop and even with it's build made for smaller it still works quite well. It's made a pretty significant heat decrease.
- Cons: The color, I only say this because I thought I had ordered the black one. The USB cable is an eyesore. I personally just dislike that shiny metallic cable type and much prefer the black.
- Other Thoughts: Just be prepared to receive the white one. It works great and is totally worth the price.
Good price, good quality
- Pros: Cheap price for a sturdy cooling pad that works well.
Laptop is stable while sitting on the cooling pad. The USB connection also has a female USB connector so it does NOT take up any of your USB ports.
- Cons: This pad is not for your lap! It is not comfortable at all if you want to use it as a cooler while your laptop is on your lap. (Not a problem for me because it was purchased for desk use)
- Other Thoughts: Rubber pads in the back would have been nice to make sure it wouldn't scratch the desk.
In the past my laptop, while under CPU/video card intensive loads, would overheat and once fried my video card. Once I had purchased this cooling pad, overheating like that never happened again. Keeps my CPU temps down 10-15C during peak performance.
- Pros: Lowered my HP G60 Laptop GPU and core temp from 100+ degrees Celsius to ~60 degrees. Also, the fans are easily accessible on the bottom, so if one dies, you can easily replace it.
- Cons: The metal on is a big rough on the edges. It scratched my desk some, but that's nothing that some rubber pads on the bottom can't fix.
