Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. This 12-gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 50 small CPU cores, or 20 large CPU cores, or 7 to 15 heat plates.
Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

More is not better
- Pros: Doesn't separate over time, and performs a lot better than all of the generic or even industrial compounds I come across
- Cons: Not a con to the product, but a lot of people are in the mindset that more is better. Obiously that is not the case with this product
- Other Thoughts: To those people: try applying the compound, then wipe it off with a papertowel, but not all of it. Basically smear it all around and get it thin enough so you can read what kind of cpu you have. From being a Field Tech I have seated hundreds of cpus, and it takes a while to get it right without having a lot of waste.
Pretty good
- Pros: Stuff works pretty well; I've had to use this on multiple surfaces when putting my liquid cooled computer together. Best advice is to just use a little and when you smash it down with the heat sink it'll spread.
- Cons: Extremely expensive and you have to be careful because it can get everywhere... :)
Using too much will cause your computer to heat up more readily.
- Other Thoughts: If you have done your research it penetrates at a microscopic level in the metal. Therefore, I highly recommend purchasing "Arctic Silver ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier - OEM" as well. This will help you if you have to take things apart and put them back together again later. You may use the remover and purifier to clean off existing grease as well before applying this product.
