COOLER MASTER SLC-S41-U1 Aluminum Fan & Heatsinks

-cheap: might as well get a low-end video card for the price of some of the others
- fairly quiet, (audible, but not obtrusive)
- works great as a replacement for inadequate OEM northbridge/GPU cooling solutions (see Other thoughts)

GPU temps now stay around 50*C at idle and peak at only 61*C after 5 minutes of the Furmark v1.9 Xtreme Burn-in Test using this heatsink & fan with Artic Silver 5 thermal compound. My GPU Temps (all measured with Piriform Speccy) were at 98*C while web browsing and 90*C at idle) w/ HP's OEM heatsink.

Cons: The thermal adhesive pad that is attached to the heatsink sticks good, but doesn't conduct heat well. After installing this as it came, GPU Temps still peaked at 79*C after 5 minutes of Furmark v1.9 Xtreme Burn-in Test.

Other Thoughts: I used this to replace the lackluster OEM heatsink on a 2 year-old HP p6210y desktop (Nvidia GeForce 9100 integrated graphics - Google it and you'll see many cases of these running really hot). I am using the clip from the OEM heatsink to hold this in place (requires fan removal/reinstallation) and it works good.

Previous reviewers must not be correctly prepping the surface of the GPU. FYI Goo-Gone Xtreme Remover (comes in metal container) is excellent for this purpose and also works great for removing old thermal compound from GPus/CPUs.

The thermal pad sticks good, but is not very good at conducting heat. I strongly recommend removing it and using a good compound such as Arctic Silver 5.

I am using a 4-pin molex to 2-pin PWM adapter to power it at 12v full-time and noise is hardly noticeable.

Other Thoughts: well it looked like it was going to work but because my north bridge chip was like a little above the mother board it did not work.

Cons: Thermal tape might as well be scotch tape. Read all the reviews. There are a lot of complaints regarding the thermal tape.

Other Thoughts: Cooler Master builds good products. They should be ashamed their name is attached to this one. Newegg should be ashamed they are selling it. TRASH

Pros: Small functional fan, decent heat sink. For those of you with a windowed chassis, it does have a blue LED and it uses a 3 pin connector.

Cons: The fan only lasted me for about a year. Not sure if you can call that a negative, I mean for the price its ok......

Other Thoughts: I never needed the heatsink... I just wanted the fan for the blue LED, and I needed a cool fan for my North Bridge and PWMs ( I have a windowed case). I actually made smaller heatsinks out of the original heatsink with my dremel tool.

Pros: Blue light. Cools better than the default heatsink/logo combo.

Cons: Hey, you know how everyone says the adhesive/thermal stuff doesn't stick. It doesn't stick.

Other Thoughts: Zip ties can be threaded through the heat sink so it sits at a 45 degree angle, but not what I'd consider normal.

Pros: Cheap price for a fan and heatsink so I bought 2 just for the fans.

Cons: I wish Newegg would improve their fan's electrical connection description. No problem with this fan as the pic shows the correct plug. How about a pwm fan section only with pics of the connectors?

Other Thoughts: I have a ASRock X58 Extreme (after removing the Logo plate on the northbridge heatsink that comes attached with thermal tape) and used the north and south heatsinks that came with my board so installing was a breeze. Just removed the screws from the fan and re-mounted using the same screws to my boards heatsink. Works great.

Other Thoughts: im useing the biostar tf main borad so i removed the fan from the heatsink and mounted on the factory heatsink with no problems

Pros: Quiet, Blue LED looks soft and clear, Solid construction, Cool Master, perfect size for my NForce4 chip, Cools like it should!

Cons: The "Sticky" thermal compound already on the bottom of the heat sink is sticky, as in it sticks dust, your fingers and basically anything that isn't a warm chip set.

It sticks like you think it would when you put it on your chip set, then you turn the computer on and the small vibrations from the fan plus the warm chip set is enough for it to not stick anymore....

Also, a side note, Newegg advertises this cooler as a copper cooler. The box says its maid of aluminum, so if you really want copper, don't buy this, for me it didn't matter. I just replaced my bad aluminum with this one.

Other Thoughts: I jerry-rigged it using zip-ties but i will be buying some Epoxy Thermal Compound pretty soon for it.
