OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Designed specifically for use with AMD Athlon XP processors up to 3400+, and AMD Sempron processors up to 2800+, Thermaltake’s Extreme Volcano 12 offers cooling abilities well above your stock cooler. The entire assembly is made from 100 percent copper for improved heat dissipation, and the dense heatsink consists of 66 individual fins that will quickly spread the heat created by a processor under heavy load.

The unit is topped by a long-life two ball bearing, 80mm three-blade fans capable of increased airflow over fans with more blades and reducing air turbulence. A control panel to adjust fan speed from 2,000 to 5,500rpm can be mounted in an empty 3.5-inch external bay in the front of your desktop or in a vacant PCI card opening at the rear of your system. There’s also a built-in temperature sensor that can be used to automatically adjust the fan speed according to cooling demand or you can simply run it at a constant 5,500rpm.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: ease of installation; control options; performance
Cons: noise level can be high
Other Thoughts: I had an Athlon XP 2900 (yes, a 2900) with a heat problem. 60 degress C. under light load with stock fan and Arctic Silver 5. This brought it to 49 C. Color me surprised. Will be ordering many more of these and related products from Thermaltake. Always use Fed-X!

Pros: The CPU temperature dropped more than 10C;
It is really easy to install;
Fan speed control helps adjusting the fan noise;
Very powerful fan.
Cons: warning: Loud noise at high speed (5500 rpm) but you can change the speed to fit your needs.
Other Thoughts: I suggest everyone to use a special thermal compound (with silver) to increase the cooler performance.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I've had this for about a year. Even in the hot new england months, I haven't ever needed to turn it up to high. It is quiet when it's low. I like it!
Cons: Not compatible with my new AMD I just bought :(
Other Thoughts: Good bye, my sweet Volcano, I will miss you.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I use these for all my customer's computers. I have lost count how many of these I have bought (and only form Newegg). Great cooling, very powerful fan. I have yet to fine a better Socket A cooler ever!
Cons: Like everyone else says it can get a little noisy at full speed, but I would rather have a nice cool running PC then a quiet one (IMO).
