ICON Loading...

Designed specifically for use with AMD Athlon XP processors up to 3400+, and AMD Sempron processors up to 2800+, Thermaltake’s Extreme Volcano 12 offers cooling abilities well above your stock cooler. The entire assembly is made from 100 percent copper for improved heat dissipation, and the dense heatsink consists of 66 individual fins that will quickly spread the heat created by a processor under heavy load.

The unit is topped by a long-life two ball bearing, 80mm three-blade fans capable of increased airflow over fans with more blades and reducing air turbulence. A control panel to adjust fan speed from 2,000 to 5,500rpm can be mounted in an empty 3.5-inch external bay in the front of your desktop or in a vacant PCI card opening at the rear of your system. There’s also a built-in temperature sensor that can be used to automatically adjust the fan speed according to cooling demand or you can simply run it at a constant 5,500rpm.

  • newegg Pure Copper Heatsink Base and Fins A pure copper base and fins maximize heat dissipation surface area for excellent cooling performance.
  • newegg Dual-Ball Bearing, Triple-Blade Fan The powerful dual-ball bearing, triple-blade 80mm fan increases air flow and eliminates air turbulence for excellent cooling performance and is ultra-quiet, too!
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed Control A bundled fan speed controller enables control of noise and fan speed for exceptional cooling and quietness.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it!

Pros: I've had this for about a year. Even in the hot new england months, I haven't ever needed to turn it up to high. It is quiet when it's low. I like it!

Cons: Not compatible with my new AMD I just bought :(

Other Thoughts: Good bye, my sweet Volcano, I will miss you.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best!!

Pros: I use these for all my customer's computers. I have lost count how many of these I have bought (and only form Newegg). Great cooling, very powerful fan. I have yet to fine a better Socket A cooler ever!

Cons: Like everyone else says it can get a little noisy at full speed, but I would rather have a nice cool running PC then a quiet one (IMO).

5 out of 5 eggsNewegg... get this in ASAP

Pros: Excellent

Cons: Loud?

Other Thoughts: I had one for about a year and a half, and it died a month ago, got a cheap replacement. It doesn't do the job..... newegg get this fan in stock!

5 out of 5 eggsIt keeps going, and going...

Pros: After 3 years, this baby continues to keep my Athlon XP 3200+ cool. Variable speed control is nice even though I keep it at one speed- middle range. Never had any problems with it, just keep the dirt and dust out of the fins! I have never had the need to take temps since CPU lockups hardly occur in my system. I expect it to last as long as my Thermaltake PurePower 420W has, which is over 5 years !! Overall, this HSF is one reliable unit I highly recommend !!

Cons: A bit loud at full speed, but have not even needed to use it on high speed...even in the summer!

Other Thoughts: Thermaltake makes very excellent products, and thank Newegg for carrying them !!

5 out of 5 eggsG-Rider

Pros: All I have to say is that the AMD XP-2100 WAS idle at 60c/140f+ and now at 44c with less nose.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The fan on this volcano 12 can run over 5000rpm; nose yep.

5 out of 5 eggsCOOL!

Pros: Chilled my Athlon XP 1600 from 50C at idle to 30C with fan on HI. Fan at half speed is inaudible and temp only 3 degrees higher.

Cons: I pulled out my PSU to access the HS clip. Made install much easier. It is loud on high speed but I don't think I'll need to run it on high. just put it in today

Other Thoughts: Seems to be a very good cooler. I think the thermal mass of the HS accounts for most of it's effectiveness. NEWEGG ROCKS!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: Cools very well for a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ stays around 35 to 45 C. most of the time!
The highest I've seen it was 60 on full load with the fan on lowest settings.
Crank the fan up and your temps will drop like crazy!

Cons: Quite loud when the fan is turned up but its understandable.

Other Thoughts: Turn the fan on high if you're playing games that require heavy graphics and loud noises, it'll help alot.
When I play games, I turn it up to just where I won't hear it.

5 out of 5 eggsA great heatsink

Pros: This heatsink is a copper gem. My idle temps were in the mid 40's C and around the lower 50's C with my amd athlon xp 2000+ overclocked around 2.1 ghz with the stock heatsink/fan. Now it's SCREAMING along at 2.3 ghz and is chilled down to 31C at idle and around 40-42C at full load, even after playing Call of Duty 2 for a few hours. Placed order on a Sunday, had it Tuesday. Great prices and excellant service.... THANKS Newegg.

Cons: Because of the heat created by the high overclock, the fan on the heatsink does not slow down during idle that much. So it is a bit noisey. Before the overclock, the fan never really had to speed up that much, so it was so quiet I couldn't hear it over my case fans. Not really a con since I am trading a little noise for GREAT performance.

Other Thoughts: Definately buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive Athlon XP fan.

Pros: A very effective fan, especially as an upgrade over the stock aluminum fan packaged with my Athlon 3200+ barton chip. At times I would hit 70'C while under load (usually playing one of my FPS's) with the stock fan. After I installed the Volcano it dropped 25'C from 70'C to 45'C under load even at a relatively low fan speed (to minimize noise). Very easy install (you need not remove your board in order to install as there are no board mounts, unlike some chip/fan combinations). Highly recommended buy. A must for an overclocked rig.

Cons: none.
